The objective of the The Power to Be Foundation is to encourage leadership and to support academic achievement by providing youth opportunities to succeed in school and in life.We plan to provide resources such as academic scholarships, literacy and leadership programs, as well as financial aid in the development and maintenance of the basic primary and secondary schools in Canada and internationally.Local Youth

The Power To Be Youth Committee is comprised of local community youth called "The Change Makers". Our program designed to re-engage at risk youth in through community service while simultaneously providing mentorship, leadership/character development and education, promoting self-esteem, improving behaviour patterns, and helping foster postive community involvment.

"The Change makers" will have hands on experience with the planning and implementation of our projects and fundraising efforts. This involvment will help build a sense of community as well as equipt them with valuable skills that they can use in the future.

We currently meet with youth once a month at the East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club.

LITERACY CAMP: During the summer of 2010 we will also run a literacy and sports camp for children 7 to 11 years old. This program will assist in the development and maintenance of basic literacy skills and provide an opportunity for the children to have fun! LEADERSHIP CAMP:We are working to raise money and sponsorship to run a leadership program in the summer of 2010. The program will provide leadership and skills training to youth between 12 and 16 years old in Jamaica. Volunteer teachers and youth workers will work with selected youth to provide an opportunity that we believe will have a positive impact on the development and success of those who take part.

Scholarships

Secondary School Scholarship ProgramSupports uniform, school supplies, and books for selected students. The program will also track individual students through personal letters and progress reports in an effort to provide continued support and encouragement.
