You're never too young or too old to start playing an instrument. Whether you want to join a band with your friends, want to play along to your favourite tunes in your bedroom, or dream of playing in a stadium to thousands of screaming fans, it all
starts here!
Your own personal hopes and goals dictate the way we approach teaching and learning together. Some people want to learn theory and work towards graded exams, many others simply want to learn to play for fun. It's completely up to you.
I believe the best way to learn a musical instrument is through one-to-one lessons. There are many excellent books and DVDs on the market today, but they can't listen to your playing and respond to it. They can't show you how to improve your posture and technique, nor can they plan a bespoke program around your own personal needs and aspirations.
Lessons are usually one hour long and can be held in my own music room in Hornchurch, Essex, or in the comfort and familiarity of your own home.
Click on any of the links above for more information.
- Finger style or plectrum work
- Fret technique
- Theory, rhythm and melody
- Composition and improvisation
I often find it can help if the student has a song they'd like to be able to play as it gives us a task to work and learn around, as well as offering a very satisfying end result! If you are totally new to the bass and don't yet have your own guitar, I have a number of basses available for use during the lessons.
If you have any other specific queries, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Lessons are usually one hour long and take place at my own premises in Hornchurch, Essex. That said, I can also conduct the lesson in the comfort and familiarity of your own home - although a small surcharge may apply if the travel involved is significant.
I would suggest at least one lesson per week is ideal, but we can work around whatever suits you best.
My rates are £20 per hour, or £10 per 1/2 hour.
If you book and pay for 10 lessons in advance I offer an 11th lesson for free!
The content of the lessons themselves varies from student to student depending upon their own needs. Typically we will try to spend as much of the lesson playing, focusing on:
Matt Broughton has been playing bass for fun and as a professional since he was a teenager. His bass playing career began by accident after picking up an acoustic guitar and playing along to the Sunday night radio charts and his family's record collection. After a few months emulating the likes of Paul McCartney, Sting and John Taylor, it became obvious he had an ear for bass lines, and one quick trip to the local music shop later Matt was on his way!
Twenty years, several bands, hundreds of gigs, and PLENTY of bass guitars later, Matt is in a position to pass on his accumulated knowlege to budding bassists.
In recent times Matt has toured Europe with SPIZZ ENERGI,
played across the UK with original bands such as WASTER
and KILL DOROTHY, and continues to play in groups such as
THE TALENT, SUPERNOVA and THE PARTY CORPORATION at corporate functions, parties and weddings.
