My Inspiration
In general, I love to take in any sort of visual stimuli around me. Whether it is leafing through magazines, clicking around online, perusing a museum, or walking around the neighborhood, I find pleasure in discovering and trying to absorb any styles I can set my eyes on. Admittedly, some methods are more challenging than others, however my inability to easily grasp some styles and media only give me a greater appreciation and foster a greater level of interest.
If I had to choose a "favorite" inspiration, I would have to give a nod to classic film poster art. I don't even think I favor one genre over another. Each has its own bit or awesome that the artist needed to convey. Aside from style, I also have a great respect for the processes of the era. We take for granted tools that we use today. The artists of yesterday got their hands dirty.
Also, I find myself drawn to pre-1960 industrial marketing and design. One can't discount the beauty and pride that went into products back then and I just love those those powerful metal badges stamped on products reflecting that pride. Emblems on products today, no matter how pretty, just can't reflect that solidarity and teamwork of the manufacturing atmosphere of yesteryear.
