The pH Unbalanced Band, consisting of five members, was created in 1997 to play for the Calgary Parrot Head Club, a Jimmy Buffett fan club which was founded the year before. This entertaining and crowd participating show, with a style of music we call Tropical Rock or Trock, carries hot rhythms and boundless amounts of sultry sounds. It is in their Caribbean souls and they know that when you hear them, you will experience the warmth of the tropics too.

Doug - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Bad Jokes
Dougs musical career started at the tender age of five years when he started piano lessons. He attained his grade 6 Toronto Conservatory diploma by the age of twelve. Buying his first guitar at the age of fourteen, he taught himself the basic chords. Campfire sing-a-longs were as close as he would get to performing live for an audience until the PH Unbalanced Band called at Dougs ripe old age of forty six. Doug plays guitar and lead vocals for the band. He has immersed himself in all things tropical to get into Jimmys character, such as perfecting deck Margaritas, cheeseburgers and the like. Dougs mantra of life is, Its gotta be five oclock somewhere!
Nick - Bass, Vocals, More Bad Jokes
Born and bred in Texas, his interests in music started as a kid listening to his grandmother sing and play guitar on long, hot summer nights in the front yard. He enjoyed playing both trumpet and baritone in the junior high marching band but the magic didnt really happen until those four lads from Liverpool showed up on US shores in 1964. Given an old, beat up guitar by a neighbor, he bought a chord book and the first tune he taught himself was Twist and Shout. After a while, he switched to bass; Girls dig bass players! Being a southern boy, he was no stranger to Jimmy Buffetts music in the good ol days of FM radio back in the 70s. In the 80s, he discovered the Caribbean with a $99 round trip ticket to Cancun, and with his bags packed with shorts and tapes of Jimmys music, he fell in love with the sand, surf, and easy going lifestyle.
Playing in many bands through the years, Nick has played many styles in his thirty plus years as a performer but none give him as much pleasure as playing Jimmys music Its funner than watching a heifer play in the moonlight!
Joyce - Frottoir (wash board), Harmonica, Keyboard Synthesizer, Rhythm Guitar, Steel Drum, Ukulele, Vocals
"Yes, Ive been a pirate, since I was three feet tall." Since Joyce can remember, she has loved the music of Jimmy Buffett. Growing up in a musical family, she started playing piano by ear at age five. As well as the piano /keyboard synthesizer, Joyce enjoys the challenge of new instruments and has learned to play guitar, flute, saxophone, steel drums, frottoir, ukulele, congas and anything else she can get her hands on. Although Joyce enjoys singing and harmonizing with like musicians, her favorite measurement of music is performing in front of a crowd and being in a Margaritaville state of mind!
Chris - Percussion
While enjoying drumming for over four decades, Chris has ultimately perfected his own fabulous style. He has enjoyed playing all kinds of music with different musicians at clubs and private functions over the past years including Country, Rock, Blues, Reggae and Caribbean. Being self taught, he has allowed himself to incorporate other players styles to build his own unique sounds! His keen ear and quick learning ability has only perfected the rhythmic feel that leads the listeners to want to dance, dance, dance! He loves his music, and enjoys a good rhythm and feel... pH Unbalanced has that!
Dustan - Harmonica, Lead Guitar, Percussion, Rhythm Guitar, Saxophone, Vocals
Besides busting bad guys, Dustan also busts guitar strings (once in a while) and loves all music, especially Jimmy Buffett. He started playing piano when he was seven years old, took up the saxophone when he was twelve, had a drum set when he was fourteen and bought his first guitar when he was eighteen. Needless to say, he had some musical influence from within his family. Dustan also loves to harmonize, sing and play any instrument he can get his hands on. In 2001, Dustan had the experience of touring through San Diego, Los Angeles and Anaheim, California playing his saxophone in a jazz band. He has appeared playing music on City TVs Breakfast Television and has played with the pH Unbalanced Band for seven years now. Dustans own state of Margaritaville can be found anywhere he goes, with no-worries and its all good being his dictum for life.
Greg - Sound & Lighting
After graduating from SAIT with an Honours Diploma in Electronics Technology, Greg worked for ten months at CKXL 1140 AM radio. Following this, he worked at a research and development company and met a fellow worker who introduced him to two musicians who required a sound technician to operate a PA/monitor system. In the following thirty plus years, Greg has worked with dozens of musicians and sound professionals, gathering not only an incredible amount of equipment, but also an invaluable amount of knowledge and experience about sound and lighting for stage and studio use.
