Matthew Pelandini has been composing, arranging, performing and teaching in the Puget Sound region for almost 20 years. A native of Bainbridge Island, Matthew has traveled far and wide gathering influences, spreading his own music, and performing a wide variety of music.Among the many compositions and arrangements to Matthew's credit are many for vocal jazz ensembles, string quartets, full orchestra, solo instruments, and more. The road to where I am today is littered with opportunity. Currently, I use those experiences to try and teach music in the public schools, and have found success teaching band and choir at the high school level.My future goals include increasing my presence in the Seattle arts scene. This is something that I have watched others do from a distance, and alwasys was impressed with the reception they received as new artists in this area. I also want to venture into multimedia collabrations such as in film, television and video games. I have worked in a variety of styles as an arranger and feel comfortable working in almost any idiom. I not only have maintained both programs but began the arduous process of growing them. I have developed a music appreciation curriculum that challenges the students to learn about music that may be unfamiliar to them, and to think critically about it. Edmonds Community College Part-Time FacultyWhle at Edmonds Community College I served in several capaities:Director, Vocal Jazz Choir: Conduct rehearsals, select repertoire, schedule and perform quarterly concerts.Music Librarian: maintain sheet music library for all ensembles, check out materials, update and matriculate all new materials.Tutor: Music Theory: Schedule all tutoring sessions for all music theory and music fundamental students. Cover all material presented in class, and report to the Office of Learning Services.Music Theory substitute: fill in for regular instructor, follow lesson plans, and answer student questions. Central Washington University Graduate Teaching AssistantHistory of Jazz: This was a large lecture class, and included teaching non-music majors the basic elements of music as applied to historical styles of Jazz. I used an online virtual classroom in conjunction to facilitate further learning in an alternative environment.Jazz Band II: This performance-based class focused on rehearsing and performing songs from the standard jazz band repertoire. Every quarter, the band would perform in the Jazz Night performance. I was responsible for lesson planning, and score study, as well as presenting all musical concepts. Percussion Methods: This class was focused on the basics of playing and teaching percussion instruments. I was responsible for curriculum design, test construction, lesson planning, as well as presenting all materials. In all cases, I received positive feedback and evaluation from my departmental superiors and students. Central Washington University Assistant Director, Jazz Band IIII Assisted Chris Bruya in teaching jazz concepts and rehearsing Jazz Band III during the 2002-2003 school year. I received close personal teaching observation and feedback based on observation by Chris Bruya. Throughout the year, I received extremely positive evaluations from both Chris Bruya and the department chair.
