We approach each residential project with care and sensitivity. We realize that as family and work needs change, our homes need to respond. We also know that, when it comes to outlining your goals for the project, no architect can approach the level of expertise that you, the Owner can offer. That is why we believe that you are the most important member of the design team. We also realize that the cost of heating and cooling our homes continues to rise. We offer high performance design solutions to address this inconvenient truth.
In order to insure that your new home or addition meets all of your design goals, we have developed a new, more intuitive way of designing. Instead of cryptic plans and blueprints, our designs are developed using a digital model to generate realistic three dimensional drawings. These drawings allow you and the other members of your home design team to fully appreciate the look and feel of your new home as it will be experienced when built. Once the various design options are modeled and 3D drawings are available, the designs can be performance-optimized using our energy modeling and analysis software. This comprehensive and intuitive design process allows you to select the design that provides the best in the way of aesthetic merit, function, and reduced energy cost. It all adds up to provide you with the best possible value for your investment.
We are experts in custom home design, multi-family design, additions and extended family suites, affordible housing, tax-credit projects and sustainable design. Please contact us for a free consultation and fee estimate.
At Studio Z, we bring you home.

This Rhode Island family wanted their new weekend home to be fully customized to their active lifestyle. Amenities include his-and-her master baths, mahogony entrance surrounds, a remote gameroom, private study, and gourmet kitchen, all organized around a 35 foot grand living space with a 15-foot high vaulted ceiling.
BACK TO RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS PORTFOLIO
Situated just two blocks from the marina, this narrow site offered three great reasons to build; location, location, and location. Careful interpretation of zoning regulations allowed for a third level living space with roof windows to frame sweeping water views that are not present in the two-story neighboring properties. This award winning project provides ample evidence of how creative design and attention to detail can overcome restrictions and dramatically increase real estate value. The project was featured in Better Homes and Gardens magazine where it was recognized nationally with a Best Homes, Coast to Coast award.
This young couple had an interesting challenge. Their home was beautiful and spacious to start with but their growing family needed even more space for recreation and entertainment to allow the more formal rooms of the existing home to breathe and avoid the clutter. Architecturally, the Tudor Style structure included intricate brickwork and dramatic exposed timbers that needed to be visually referenced in the massing and detailing of the addition. Studio Z allowed the owners to remain fully immersed in the design process by presenting three dimensional views and animated walk around videos so the the proper scale and balance could be achieved.
Providing design and related services for commercial and retail projects is a focused area of expertise at Studio Z. In the past 30 years, The members of Studio Z have participated in over 900 nationwide commercial and retail projects for companies including Food Lion/Bloom, CVS, Circuit City, Jo-Ann Fabrics, CitiTrends, CarMax, TJ Maxx, Big and Tall, Parade of Shoes, The Gap, Ralph Loren, Rugged Warehouse, Kumon, and Sprint. These projects involve the application of retailer-developed prototype designs, a process that Patrick Zampetti managed for over five years while working with Circuit City. These designs are then applied to big-box stand alone stores, strip center and mall retail tenant fit-outs, and chain-wide remodeling projects. Studio Z has also created “mom and pop unique retail store solutions. While the projects come in different sizes and scopes, they all share the need for design accuracy and speed to meet the market-driven demands of the retail environment. Accurate documentation, produced at a reasonable fee and delivered on-time, is essential to the retailer who is looking to bring their product to market quickly and out-execute the competition.
Studio Z considers its creative skills, technological capabilities and team-player mind set to be valuable assets in the area of retail design/development. They are NCARB certified and can work in any US state via reciprocity. They are also a SWaM certified small business with low overhead expense offering competetive fees and outstanding service.
In addition to providing new store and retail design and engineering services, Studio Z also has nationwide retail experience as an Architectural Project Management Consultant. Our experience
in this capacity includes work on-location doing all of the up-front due-diligence work required to open a new store location based on a given retail prototype in both regional and nationwide markets. They travel to the local building departments, meet with the landlord/land owners
and the construction lead, coordinate all approvals and permits face to face with the required departments and agencies, negotiate design standards/covenants and site restrictions with owners and landlords and whatever else it takes to place a new store location on the map. Studio Z provides valuable expertise to your retail and commercial design/development team.
