Family
Cotillard was born in Paris and grew up around Orléans, Loiret, in an artistically inclined, "bustling, creative household". Her father, Jean-Claude Cotillard, is an actor, teacher, former mime, and 2006 Molière Award-winning director of Breton descent(his mother Léontine Cotillard still lives in Plémet, Brittany). Her mother, Niseema Theillaud, is also an actress and drama teacher. She has two younger twin brothers, Quentin and Guillaume. Quentin Cotillard is a sculptor and painter living in San Francisco, California, with his wife, Elaine O'Malley Cotillard, "a former Dutch National Ballet dancer who grew up in Marin County, and is now a San Francisco fashion designer". Guillaume Cotillard is a screenwriter and director.
Cotillard began acting during her childhood, appearing on stage in one of her father's plays.
Mini Career Bio
Marion Cotillard, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role as Édith Piaf in La môme (2007) (retitled "La Vie en Rose" in the United States), is the second actress to win an acting Oscar performing in a language other than English next to Sophia Loren who won for La ciociara (1960). Only two male performers (Roberto Benigni for La vita è bella (1997) and Robert De Niro for The Godfather: Part II (1974)) have won an Oscar for solely non-English parts.
While still a teenager, Cotillard made her cinema debut in the film L'histoire du garçon qui voulait qu'on l'embrasse (1994). Her first prominent screen role was as "Lilly Bertineau" in Taxi (1998/I), a role which she reprised in two sequels. Director Olivier Dahan cast Cotillard to play Édith Piaf, the legendary French singer, in La môme (2007) because to him her eyes were like those of "Piaf". The fact that she can sing also helped Cotillard land the role of "Piaf", although most of the singing in the film is that of Piaf's.
She received positive reviews from critics for her performances in Les jolies choses (2001), Lisa (2001) and Une affaire privée (2002).
2003 marks an important year for Cotillard: She starred alongside Guillaume Canet in the comedy Love me if you dare (Jeux d'enfants), directed by Yann Samuell. The movie was a success in France and Italy.
Also in 2003, Tim Burton introduced her to English-speaking audiences with her role in Big Fish (2003).
In 2004, she won a César Award as Best Supporting Actress for Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Un long dimanche de fiançailles (2004) in which she played the murderous "Tina" and only appeared for about ten minutes in the movie.
In 2006, she played the lead alongside Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's A Good Year (2006).
Her turn as Piaf brought Cotillard the Oscar, the César (France's equivalent to the Oscar), a BAFTA Award, and a Golden Globe among other prizes. Trevor Nunn called her portrayal of "Piaf" "one of the greatest performances on film ever". At the Berlin International Film Festival, where the film premiered, Cotillard was given a 15-minute standing ovation.
In 2008, she started shooting Public Enemies (2009), directed by Michael Mann. And in 2009 she landed a role in Nine, directed by Rob Marshall
Personal life
Cotillard currently lives with French actor and director Guillaume Canet. Many reports say the couple prefers to live a simple lifestyle, and they are often spotted in cafes and shopping together in Paris. Neither star discusses their relationship with the media, although photos of the couple being affectionate regularly surface in the European tabloids.
She is a fan of Radiohead and Canadian singer Hawksley Workman; she has appeared in two of the latter's music videos, most notably "No Reason to Cry Out your Eyes (On the Highway Tonight)". Workman even revealed in interviews about his last album Between The Beautifuls that he worked and wrote songs with Cotillard while they both were in Los Angeles during the movie awards season.

New Cosmopolis Poster
Colin Farrell and Marion Cotillard are to play man and wife in filmmaker David Cronenberg's new movie, "Cosmopolis". Cronenberg has adapted the screenplay for the thriller from Don DeLillo's novel of the same name.
The film is about the story of a 28 year-old billionaire who crosses Manhattan for a haircut. Farrell will play the multimillionaire asset manager, who loses his fortune in 24 hours, according to Daily Variety.
Back in February this year, Cronenberg said, "Everyone's happy with the script. -- It's a project I'm very fond of. It's a terrific book and plans are in the works to make that movie. -- I have a couple of possible films, none of which has jelled completely yet, so that's why I'm writing as well - I've got to do something."
