The Story...
Like every year, during a special week in February, the city of Maastricht and its inhabitants get dressed up in colorful ways, the sound systems are ready to explode with the typical joyful music. People of all ages and social status will leave their warm houses to fill the streets and the cafés, joining together in a big collective party, where social or cultural differences don't matter, everybody is equal and the main common goal is having fun together, from early in the morning till late in the night:
It's Carnival again!
Why pray?
But...besides the poetic and cultural aspects of this ancient tradition, very dear and deeply rooted in the hearts of the local people... there are also some aspects that we (at Damascus Road International Church) would like to pray for.
Without trying to be moralistic, we simply would like to take a step back, as a Christian community in the city, and simply join together to pray for the city. Not in a judgmental way, but in a loving way.
We believe that, even behind some of the “happy masks”, there are still many people “seeking for more” in life, and many hearts that still need to be touched by true love. The kind of love, joy, fulfillment, healing that God only can give us.
We love Maastricht and its people and would like to pray a special blessing upon them during this time. That they may be reached by God and His love, that they may find life abundantly and that their joy may be true and full.
The plan
We invite you to join us in a somehow unconventional prayer time, to intercede for the people of this city.
This is why we organize 2 days (48 hours) of prayer, between february 19, 20 and 21 .
Everybody is welcome to sign up and pray half an hour (or more !) for the city of Maastricht.
Are you willing to pray with us?
