ABOUT OTIS

Otis has worked in numerous positions requiring essential skills and leadership abilities. He has worked with documents which consist of mortgages, tax shelters, contracts, affidavits, insurance policies and more. Otis was a standout point guard for the University of Memphis from 1978-82 where he earned his BA. Otis, determined to succeed, earned his MBA while managing his own business, working a full-time job and providing quality family time. He is currently seeking to win the democratic primary nomination as the Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk on February 5, 2012 and needs your vote. Otis volunteered for several years as a basketball coach for AAU Jr. Olympics, a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Memphis, a basketball coach for the Jewish Community Center, an advocate for St. Jude Children’s Hospital, a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., a spokesperson for the Sickle Cell Foundation Radio-Thon, a Life Blood Donor, participates in golf tournaments benefiting the Dream Factory, Steven Lowe Foundation, and the Hank Aaron Celebrity Classic, served on the Democratic Executive Committee from 2002-2004, the St. Jude ALSAC Committee, and served as guest speaker at several banquets/events. Today, at the age of 51, Otis and his wife, Janie are the proud parents of two sons (James and Brandon), a daughter (Janiel), a daughter-in-law (Lizzeth), and two grandsons (Jaylin and Jaycob).

Accomplishments: Otis Jackson has quality experience in a number of different fields ranging from a business owner to an AAU junior basketball coach. Having over 20 years of experience in professional business and management, Otis has the essential skills and leadership ability needed to improve on Shelby County. He received his MBA while managing his own business, a full-time job and providing quality family time. In September, 2008, Jackson was elected Shelby County General Sessions Court Clerk, where he has served for 18 months. In addition, Otis has generously volunteered his time and efforts as a junior basketball coach, an assistant at the University of Memphis, where Jackson was a stand out point guard, as well as an advocate for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and a spokesperson for the Sickle Cell Foundation Radio-Thon. Otis Jackson exemplifies balanced leadership through his work and service as well as continuing to be a positive role model throughout the community.

Fees Fee Collections Contracted jobs back to Greater Shelby County Metro Area which resulted in: • Contracts with local collection agencies to perform collection activities to keep the revenue in Shelby County.• Collection agencies return cases after 2 years rather than 10 years (reduce collection fees)• Traffice cases turned over to Collection Agencies (increase revenue)• Added additional collection agency to increase the revenue intake.• Increaed total revenue intake by 8% for the calendar year of 2009 from past years. 
Upgrades Upgrade of online computers and phone systems to be more users friendly. Increase court clerk efficiency and eliminate resource waste: • Automated 24 hour Clerks intake and statistical data • Created computerized system to store and access Criminal Dvision Statistics• Dockets printed alphabetically to assist clients • Automated jail release, booking, and process orders and Mittimus paperwork.• Install Word & Excel to improve work efficiency and effectiveness for staff and customers.
