Welcome to Organs of State
a performance company that looks to explore the ideas that are important to us by taking those big ideas and making them tangible and human, and presenting them in performance.
Our ensemble series begins by gathering a passionate group of theatermakers around a theme, idea, or set of writings. They explore the source material, figuring out what in the material excites them, and finally create a show from the ground up to share with these moments of discovery with the community.
In September 2009, our ensemble gathered around the short stories and explored the literary giant's less recognized texts. We found a world of eccentric but lonely individuals searching for connection, feeling like hurt children, sensitive to the noises of the world and the silence of being alone.

Our creator series puts our resources at the disposal of a young exciting new theatermaker to work on a project which they propose. These theatermakers - writers, directors, choreographers, composers - may come from within our company or from within our community.
Our goal is to give these theatermakers the opportunity to explore their passions and share what they discover with our community.
Creators Guy Yedwab and Alix Angelis teamed up to bring an original movement-theater piece on the subject of manipulation and its limits. It painted the portrait of a man exerting his will over an ensemble, greedily exploiting their loyalty until his control collapses. Performed in NYU's black box Shop Theater in Spring 2007 in conjunction with the GAP Program Board.

The work continues to be expanded, and will be seen again in a more complete form soon.

In November 2009, Creator Ines Garcia decided to investigate her relationship with the Virgin Mary. What she found was Syzygy: a movement performance piece for two people, composed in the language of dreams, incorporating multiple languages and projection design.
Syzygy was presented in a workshop at NYU's Playwrights Horizons, and at Northeastern's Fenway Hall. It continues to be developed to this day.

- Much Review About...
(or: this has never happened to me before)
It's about sex.
Actually, it's about not having sex.
It's also about love, and relationships, fear, and insufficiency.

Our company's contribution to Pipeline Theater Company's Brave New Works evening will be an evening of entertainment from our Clown-in-Residence:
BORDELLO.
Bordello promises an evening of magic, song, delight, and possibly even love.
Maybe even love.

IndyMill Publishing, our independent publishing house, preserves our original performance works by committing them to print.
We also publish the works of young writers in our community who inspire us, and whose work we strongly believe should be available to the community.
This project is so important to us, it has its own website. Visit it to find out more about our writers and our books!
Organs of State is a venture for the community, and as such, it relies on the support of the community to survive. Organs of State is grateful for all of the support it gets in any form, whether in contributions of time, inspiration, or money.
