Ohio Northern University
Delta Theta Chapter
Dear Potential New Member,
Congratulations on your acceptance to Ohio Northern University, we are so excited to welcome you! As you know, our school provides students with a unique and unforgettable collegiate experience. Along with our beautiful campus and excellent academic opportunities, the University provides students with the enriching and exciting chance to become a member of Greek life. You'll come to realize that our Greek Community provides you with leadership opportunities, community service, and emphasizes high academic achievement.
Zeta Tau Alpha is where I have found my second home. I am surrounded by the love and support of the most amazing women here at ONU. Zeta offers each member the opportunity to develop to her fullest potential while maintaining a balance between academic, leadership and social endeavors. The motto of Zeta Tau Alpha "Seek the Noblest" can be seen through leadership positions held by Zetas in many of ONU's campus organizations. Our Sisterhood Events and Socials illustrate that the goal of ZTA is to unite its members in a close bond of sisterhood, to encourage individuality, and to create an atmosphere of warmth, understanding, and love.
The relationships we've built in our sorority help improve scholastic potential, teach us the acts of good citizenship, develop the qualities of patience and understanding, and aid in our personal development. You too can develop through the Zeta Tau Alpha experience, which brings to the surface those qualities already within you.
From our socials with the fraternities on campus, to our sisterhood events for just the girls, I am so proud to be a Zeta! Enjoy your first quarter at ONU and I cannot wait to see all of your beautiful faces during fall recruitment! Going Greek is a decision for life-long friendships, personal achievement and endless memories. See you soon!
Sincerely,
I'm so excited youre interested and taking the time to learn about Zeta Tau Alpha as well as all of the other sororities on campus! I considered going through Recruitment when I was a freshman, but I didn't. I stood back and watched for a year. By the time Spring quarter started, I knew I was going to go through Recruitment, and Zeta seemed like a perfect fit. I already had a personal connection to their philanthropy to breast cancer research and education; my grandmother is a breast cancer survivor. I had seen over the past year that it was an active sorority that put on multiple fundraising events and participated many campus activites. I talked to girls that were already sisters and begged them for any information they could give me. I was so excited and so eager to know more about this group of girls!
Fall quarter finally came, and I'm pretty sure I was the first girl to turn in the Recruitment application! I loved what I knew about Zeta, but I promised myself I would give all of the sororities an equal chance. Throughout the whole process I learned things about each sorority I never would have guessed before, and I was always pleasantly surprised. I thought I'd figured it all out after watching from the sidelines for a year. Being a second year student wasn't that much of an advantage after all! Even though I had a greater respect for each sorority, Zeta still stood out to me. I loved everything about them the girls, the house, their philanthropy...the list goes on and on!
Months later, my love for Zeta has multiplied exponentially. Becoming a ZTA sister has taught me so much. I found strength in myself that I never knew I had. Ive taken on more responsibilities and balanced them better than I would have previously given myself credit for. I now have wonderful friendships in my life that I could have missed out on. My truest friends are the ones I call my sisters. I can't promise that we are perfect, but I can tell you that there's a chance for you to find a friendship that is so deep you wont hesitate to call these girls family. I hope that you take advantage of this opportunity!
I'm so excited for Fall Recruitment, but this time I'm on the other side. I'm excited to get to know all you wonderful girls who will be new to ONU! I hope you decide to go through recruitment, and learn what each sorority on campus, Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Zeta, Alpha Xi Delta and Kappa Alpha Theta, are all about. Each group contains such exciting possibilities. I know I'm not the only one excited to meet you there are so many girls here that feel the same!

Jess

Philanthropy
Breast Cancer Research and Education
The national philanthropy of Zeta Tau Alpha is Breast Cancer Research and Education. Here on the campus of Ohio Northern University, we take part in many service projects, all of which benefit breast cancer research and awareness, our national philanthropy. We also support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Throughout the year we are seen on campus distributing pink ribbons, and raising money through our Pink Ribbon Football Games, our annual Race for the Ribbon 5K, and volunteering for the Race for the Cure among many other projects. In our 5K race, we raised over 6,000 dollars and had 300 participants run! Furthermore, Zeta Tau Alpha has also combined efforts and are now working actively with the NFL. Help support someone you know and love, a mother, sister, cousin, grandmother, or friend, and help us find a cure for Breast Cancer!
ZTA also continues to educate the public about breast cancer awareness through its own Think Pink project. Nationwide, thousands of Zetas create and distributed more than a quarter of a million information cards and pink ribbons, the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness.
The purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha is to intensify friendship, promote happiness among its members, to perform such deeds, and to mould such opinions as will conduce to the building up of a purer and nobler womanhood in the world.
Our national symbols are the five-point crown, strawberry, rabbit and white violet, and our colors are turquoise blue and steel grey.
Zeta Tau Alpha was founded October 15, 1898, by nine women at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Only 14-15 years of age, these young women desired permanence to their friendships and hoped to perpetuate their sisterhood long after college. Though dedicated to the formation of a Greek-letter group, the band of nine delayed selecting a formal name. A temporary name of ??? was taken when, as legend has it, a member of another group met with the Founders. Raising her eyebrows and forming her fingers in the shape of a question mark, she asked Who are you? In unison, the group answered Yes, Who? Who? Who? Thus, the group came to be known as ??? while they sought an appropriate Greek name and symbols. After a year of careful contemplation, the group chose the formal name, the patron goddess and the badge.
Local History
The Delta Theta Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was installed on the campus of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, making it the 105th link in the chain of Zeta national chapters. Prior to installation, the group was a local sorority known as Theta Phi Delta. It was organized on November 19, 1909, and petitioned to become a member of Zeta Tau Alpha in 1959. The National President at this time was Mrs. Elliot Chapman. The installation was conducted by the Alpha Omega Chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University and the Alpha Pi Chapter of Ohio University.
Zeta Tau Alpha has always been a strong sorority on Ohio Northern's Campus. We have also won many national awards and honors, including the Crown Chapter and Financial Excellence Awards. The tradition of high standards still holds strong today.
