Detail Service
Keep your boat healthy in between services!
We all know that spiders, birds, and insects know exactly when your boat is detailed. Since you can't have your boat detailed every day, this article informs you of products to keep your boat clean and protected in-between detail services.
The interior of the boat is where you and your guest spend the majority of the time. With this importance on the interior it needs to look and feel clean. You do need to be careful of what cleaners you use for the material you are cleaning. The most common upholstery in the marine market is Vinyl. This fabric is chosen for its durability, yet it is terrible for attracting dirt and grime. To maintain Vinyl you only need a cleaner, protector, and cleaning clothes.
Products I recommend are:
Cleaners:
1. West Marine Vinyl Cleaner
2. 3m's vinyl cleaner & restorer.
Protectant:
303's Aerospace Protectant
This product combines an SPF of 40 to protect against fading and repels dust, dirt, and water spots.
Cloths:
There are many cloths are the market to choose from, but make sure it is either a micro-fiber or a lint free terry cloth. Micro-fiber cloths absorb at least three times the amount of water then terry cloths, yet terry cloths are more durable due to their weight.
The exterior will need a lot less care in-between detail services, yet there may be and instance when you rub against a dock or another boat when spot cleaning is needed. If the stain is minor you will be able to rub it out with a quick spry wax. Maguire's and 3M both make a spry wax that will protect and leave a brilliant shine. For tough stains use any Black Steak Remover (Starbrite, West Marine...). This should only be used for spots on the fiberglass and not for large areas. Keep in mind the Black Streak Remover will remove all the wax in the area so follow it with a Quick wax to protect the fiberglass. If the stain is too deep in the fiberglass don't worry stains will be removed on the next scheduled detail service. Dockside Detail wants your detail experience to run as smooth as possible. That's why we will not hesitate to offer a helpful hint or new idea. Our articles are created to offer an extra hand to maintain your boat year round. We know most people are not able to spend all their time on the water, so the time they do spend needs to be focused on boating and not cleaning. Our dedication towards customer satisfaction shows in all the services we offer.
