For me, photography is my hobby and my job. Whether taking pictures of a beautiful mountain meadow or a graduating senior, photography is an intricate melding of both art and science. While many basics haven't changed over the years (mostly the art), the advent of high resolution digital SLR cameras (mostly the science) has revolutionized how we capture and preserve images of our world.

about me

ABOUT ME

My formal educational background is as a geologist, with a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany. Field geologists are generally trained in photography because of the importance of preserving detailed images from locations not easily accessed (e.g., a remote mountain range or at the bottom of the ocean). While geology brought me to the Rocky Mountain west, photography (and perhaps skiing) kept me here. Whether taking photos of a stunning sunset in my own backyard or looking for a bull moose in Yellowstone on a summer evening, this area is a photographer's dream.

After years of outdoor and event photography, I opened a small portrait studio. My goal for the studio was to provide "quality photography at affordable prices". There are elaborate portrait studios that can do excellent work. And there are chain studios that can provide inexpensive work (and looks it). I try and provide the quality of the elaborate studios at significantly lower prices.
