Nikki Marie Dance Academy is run by Nikki Gibson who has been Dancing since 1991 and teaching since 1999.

At Nikki Marie Dance Academy we pride ourselves on quality fun dance training. Each class is tailor made to suit the age group with fun dances, Syllabus Work and learning dance games the students do not even realize they are learning.

We offer non-exam classes for those who are new to dancing or just want to learn some dance and exam classes for those who would like to push themselves a little further and use the exams to track their progress.

Nikki Marie

Principal and Head Teacher

Nikki Marie Dance Academy is owned and operated by Nikki Gibson. Nikki has been dancing since 1991 where she started as a 7 yr old at Keri Edley Modern School of Dance.

Since Completing the Jazz Dance New Zealand (JDNZ) Syllabus, Nikki continued to dance with Keri Edley & Alissa Bell (now Auckland Academy of Dance) in the senior Competition Teams until 2008.

Her background in teaching started in 1999 at the YMCA, where she saw a gap in providing fun dance classes. The dance programme flourished under Nikki's guidance and over 6 years she successfully choreographed, produced and directed an annual show to enable the children to experience a performance.

In 2005 she produced, directed and danced in a show for the YMCA 150th Celebrations at the Auckland Town Hall involving over 200 dancers.

Nikki also danced for Academy D Dance Studio for a few years, in their Senior Troupe performing at events like NZ & International Hockey games, Auckland Stars Basketball, Promotional events, Cancer Society Events and NZ Fashion Week.

In 2004 she decided to branch out on her own and opened First Steps Dance School which specialised in just Preschool Dance. At the end of 2007 we changed our name to Nikki Marie Dance Academy and we now offer all ages and many styles of dance.

Nikki has her Advanced certificate in the Jazz Dance New Zealand (JDNZ) Syllabus.

A Bronze & Silver Medal in Cheerleading technique from IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association)

A Bronze & Silver Medal in Irish Dance from IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association)

Is a Registered Member of New Zealand Association of Modern Dance (NZAMD)

Is a Registered Teacher of Broken Beat Hip Hop Syllabus (BBDS) & JazzAddict Australasia

In 2007 sat an Elementary 1 Hip Hop (BBDS) Exam and passed with Honours

Outside of Dance Nikki has a National Certificate in Customer Service from Sfrito and a certificate in Out of School Care and Recreation (OSCAR) from the Open Polytechnic which she is currently studying an upgrade paper.
