Judging Criteria

Areas of Competition:CT Belleza Latina is a traditional pageant for Latinas who are ages 6-older. Areas of competition include: Private Interview (40%), Fashion (25%), Evening Gown (25%) and Photogenic (10%).**Las candidatas competiran en lo siguiente: 40% entrevista personal; 25% traje de gala; 25% de vestuario estilo pasarela; y 10% fotogenica.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Private Interview (40%) - NO DRESSES, Interview Suits OnlyIt's time to show the judges your inner beauty. This is where it counts the most. In a professional interview setting with a panel of judges, you will have the opportunity to talk one on one with the judges and let them get to know who you are. Relax, be natural, and most importantly, answer the questions honestly. CT Belleza Latina titleholders must be articulate with good social and conversational skills. Titleholders must be able to express themselves clearly and must project a pleasant personality at all times. Interviews are conducted panel style for a duration of 5 minutes and focuses primarily on delegates' personal information (e.g., hobbies, ambition, etc.). Judges will not ask questions regarding Political views or Current Events.•Wear a cocktail suit or pantsuit for the interview competition.•Skirt hemline of cocktail suit should finish no higher than 2 inches above the knee.•Clear, open toe, and slingback shoes are acceptable.•Color of shoe must compliment color of suit.•City Sash must be worn for the Interview Competition.•Petite, Little Miss, Pre-Teen & Jr. Miss are required to wear stockings or tights with their interview attire.•Points will be deducted if these rules are not followed.*Judging Criteria: Conversational skill, personality, demeanor, overall self-presentation, grooming, and fashion sense. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Fashion Wear (25%) - NO Jeans or Props AllowedEver had a hidden desire to be a model? Here is your chance to walk on a real runway! Show your personality in a high-fashion outfit and work the stage. Discover the Diva in you and don't forget to smile!!CT Belleza Latina titleholders must be able to project their own personal sense of style. This segment will be conducted very much like a runway fashion show. Fashion attire can be anything the delegate feels represents a currently popular or stylish ensemble. Judges will be looking for high energy, spirit, and the delegate's sense of contemporary style for today's lady. Judges are not looking for a specific style or designer label but rather how well the attire suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as delegates on-stage presentation. Competition details:•Attire is dressy-casual and may be a dress or pants outfit - NO Sneakers, JEANS, or EVENING GOWNS should be worn as Fashionwear! Points will be deducted.•Bare midriffs are acceptable, in the Teen, Miss, & Ms. divisions, but must be tasteful and complement size and figure.•Very casual attire (e.g., shorts, jeans, dockers) is not recommended.•Gloves, purses, and props are not allowed.•Points will be deducted if these rules are not followed.*Judging Criteria: Modeling skills, personality, grooming, fashion sense and overall appearance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Evening Wear (25%) - GOWN MUST BE AGE APPROPRIATEEvery girl has always dreamed of feeling like a princess. Just as you've watched the hottest celebrities walk the red carpet, modeling the gowns of their dreams; this phase of competition gives you the opportunity to be in the spot light and wear the gown of your dreams. This is your time to shine!CT Belleza Latina titleholders must carry themselves with dignity, grace, poise and elegance. Judges will not be evaluating the cost or designer label of the gown, but rather how well it suits the delegate (e.g., fit, color, style) as well as delegate's on-stage presentation.•Evening Gown must be floor length. •Little Miss - Jr. Miss: Open leg baring splits are not allowed.•Teens are not allowed to wear gowns with thigh-high splits.•Shawls are not allowed. •Points will be deducted if these rules are not followed.* Judging Criteria: Grace, poise, personality, modeling skills, grooming and overall appearance in your evening gown. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Photogenic (10%) - CANNOT BE OVERLY AIRBRUSHEDWork the camera!! Just as you've seen famous Latinas grace the covers of your favorite magazines, the Photogenic competition is an opportunity for you to show your personality and beauty in a glamorous picture. The photogenic competition is the phase of competition the delegate has most control of. ***Printed competition photo MUST be handed in at pageant registration, the weekend of the state pageant.•Your photo may be Color or Black & White •Headshot or Half-body•May be either a Seated or Standing Position•Size of photo may be 5x7 and no larger than 8x10. The color of your photogenic picture does not have an impact on the scoring. An 8x10 will not score higher than a 5x7, based on size. •Must look like you, should not be overly airbrushed, and should have a "formal" look. * Judging Criteria: Photogenic Appeal, Facial Beauty, Grooming, Fashion Sense, Quality & Clarity of photo, Personality, & Likeness. Airbrushing should be kept to a minimum. You should look like your photo. **Points will be deducted for an overly airbrushed photo!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Traje Tipico - THIS IS AN OPTIONAL COMPETITION!!! *All delegates are required to compete in the Traje Tipico contest, but these scores DO NOT apply towards the State Queen's Title.In this phase of competition each delegate has the opportunity to display her pride of her cultural heritage. Model a costume or cultural outfit that represents the country or city you hail from (ex. Mexico/ Costa Rica/ San Juan, Puerto Rico/ Chile etc.). Once you fill out an application and speak with us, we will give you a grace period to reserve a city title and raise the deposit fee. During the 3 week deadline that you are provided with, in order to raise your deposit, we will award you with a pending city title.When do I enter?We have begun accepting applications for our 2012 pageant!! You can fill out the form on our website, Click here to Sign-Up!Deadlines. All deadlines are strictly enforced. TBD, 2012: Entry fees must be paid in full. TBD, 2012: All required paperwork must be received. •Head-shot photo for the Official Program Book must be received. (Delegates may use a different photo for the program book than their photogenic photo. The CT Belleza Latina Pageant is self-supporting and relies solely upon entry fees to cover production expenses. These entrance fees give us the ability to provide you with an unforgettable pageant experience. The entry fee is $475. Returning delegates receive a $50 discount and will have a $425 entry fee. (Must use same city crown & sash in order to receive discount.)May I seek a sponsor?You may seek sponsors or you may pay the entry fee yourself. We also provide our delegates with the option of selling "Good Luck Lines" on a Balloon Page. Balloon Page Good Luck Line sales are only made to pay towards your entry fee. (This is optional) What forms of payment are accepted?Payments may be made by cash, personal check, or money order. You can send out your payment to our P.O. Box address, bring it to a workshop, or Pay Online. Ten days before pageant weekend, we will only accept cash and/or money orders, towards DVD and/or Photo Package Purchases.Is a payment plan available?Yes. Delegates may pay the fee in full or may select a payment plan. A $100 deposit is required to initiate a payment plan. The deposit is due within 3 weeks of submitting your application. Your title will not be reserved until you pay your deposit in full. A payment must be made at least every 3 weeks until the total fee is received. Failure to submit payment every 3 weeks may result in loss of your title reservation. If I am unable to compete, will I be issued a refund or a credit?No. All fees paid to the Miss Connecticut Belleza Latina Pageant are NOT REFUNDABLE and NOT TRANSFERABLE in full or in part for under any circumstances. This includes entry fees, advertising fees, pageant admission tickets, guest meal fees and any other fees paid. Am I required to sell balloons for the program book?No. What will I be scored on when I compete?Every age category competes in the same competition phases for the state title. The Connecticut Belleza Latina Pageant is an official preliminary to the International pageant, Miss Belleza Latina, Inc. It is the premier pageant for Latinas in the state of Connecticut. Motivating our delegates to become role models in their community, we encourage education and try to inspire a desire for personal achievements and growth. Meet the Connecticut Executive Staff

Marizol Gore, State Director:Marizol Gore strives to ensure that each contestant's pageant experience has a positive impact on her everyday life. She has been involved in pageantry for the past 10 years as a mother and judge. Her daughter is a former reigning International Teen Belleza Latina Queen. She enjoys working with the youth and has served in her community. She resides in Hamden, CT and is a mother of 3 children.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael L. Gore, Associate Director: Michael has been involved in Pageantry for the past 10 years. Summer 2009, He served as an Official Judge for the 2010 Miss Galaxy International Pageant.He was a motivational speaker for the Workforce Diversity Organization and High School Community Out-Reach Program for over 10 years. He resides in Hamden, CT and is a father of 3 children. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nixida M. Vega, Creative DirectorShe is the former Reigning Miss Teen Belleza Latina International 2006. She was Miss Connecticut Teen Belleza Latina 2004 & Miss East Coast Teen Belleza Latina 2005. She was the Host on a local television show in Massachusetts called, "LATIN X-POSURE", is the spokesmodel for Homemart Furniture Stores, and has recently been aired in several commercials on Univision and Telemundo.Graduating from Hamden High School with honors, as an English Scholar, she was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. She's received an All-Star U.C.A. Cheerleading award, and cheerleaded for over 8 years. Currently a student at Southern Connecticut State University, where she is a member of the National Dean's List, she is pursuing a major in Communications, Specializing in Organizational Communications.She is also a graduate of Barbizon Modeling and Acting School as well as John Casablanca's Modeling & Career Center.She is active in her community, currently a registered volunteer for the American red Cross, CT Chapter, and has volunteered for K.C. Family Services. In honor of her commitment to her community, Nixida has received 2 Proclamations. One from Mayor of Hamden, Carl Amento and the Second from the Mayor of Waterbury, Michael Jarjura. Nixida has had great success in pageantry for the past 10 years. Winning many titles including: Miss Connecticut Pre-Teen, American Coed 1999; Miss Jr. Teen Hamden, American Coed 2001; Miss Connecticut Jr. Teen, American Coed 2002; Miss Sunburst Overall Queen, 2003; Southern CT, National American Miss Teen 2004; Miss Jewel of New England, Sr. Grand Supreme 2005; Miss Zona Latina 2005; Miss National Northeast Teen 2006, Miss New England East Coast USA 14+ Mini Supreme 2006, National American Miss Connecticut 2006, and her most recent title Miss Latina, Galaxy 2007, 2ndRunner-Up Miss Galaxy 2007. She is also a proud recipient of the coveted Supermodel With Style Award. She has used her titles to work on her platform; "D.R.E.A.M.S." She resides in Hamden, CT.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enid Zayas, Consultant:Enid is from Ponce, Puerto Rico and has been involved in the world of pageantry for over 6 years. She's obtained a Bachelor's degree in Secretarial Science at Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Currently she resides in New Britain, Connecticut.

ALL DELEGATES:**Must be at least 25% Hispanic descent. **Must be a resident of the state of Connecticut.**Must remain a resident of the state of Connecticut, as a city titleholder and during her reign as a state title holder, should she win the state pageant.DIVISIONS:Little Miss CT Belleza LatinaAges 6-8. Must be at least 6 and no older than 8 as of the start date of the International pageant. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Galaxy Pageant may be 5 years of age provided that they reach their 6th birthday prior to the start date of the Jr. Miss Galaxy International Pageant.Miss CT Pre-Teen Belleza LatinaAges 9-11. Must be at least 9 and no older than 11 as of the start date of the International pageant. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Galaxy Pageant may be 8 years of age provided that they reach their 9th birthday prior to the start date of the Jr. Miss Galaxy International Pageant.Jr. Miss CT Belleza LatinaAges 12-14. Must be single and never married as of the start date of the pageant event. Must be at least 12 and no older than 14 as of the start date of the International pageant. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Galaxy Pageant may be 11 years of age provided that they reach their 12th birthday prior to the start date of the Jr. Miss Galaxy International Pageant.Miss CT Teen Belleza LatinaAges 15-18. Must be single and never married as of the start date of the pageant event. Must not have ever had a child. Must remain unmarried during her reign as a state title holder and as the international titleholder should she win. If a Teen is engaged to be married during her reign as Miss CT Teen Belleza Latina she will be disqualified and stripped of her title. NO exceptions.Must be at least 15 and no older than 18 as of the start date of the International pageant. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Pageant may be 14 years of age provided that they reach their 15th birthday prior to the start date of the Miss Teen Belleza Latina International Pageant. Miss CT Belleza LatinaAges 19-29. May be divorced, widowed or a single mother.Must be at least 19 and no older than 29 as of the start date of the Miss Belleza Latina International Pageant event. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Pageant may be 18 years of age provided that they reach their 19th birthday prior to the start date of the International Pageant event. Ms. CT Belleza LatinaAges 30 & Over. May be married, divorced, widowed, single mother. Delegates participating in the CT Belleza Latina state pageant leading to the International Pageant may be 29 years of age provided that they reach their 30th birthday prior to the start date of the International Pageant event. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------OFFICIAL LANGUAGE:Spanish & English are the official languages of the CT Belleza Latina State Pageant & Belleza Latina International Pageant™. It is not a requirement for delegates to speak any English or be perfectly fluent in Spanish. ENTRY FEES:An entry fee is required to enter the CT Belleza Latina State Pageant as a delegate/city queen. The fee amount is $475. Delegate may seek sponsors or may pay the entry fee herself. Payment may be made by personal check, money order, or PayPal. Delegates may make payments toward the total entry fee.Payments of any amount must be made at least every 3 weeks until the total fee is received. Failure to remit payment every 3 weeks may result in loss of title and fees paid.Delegate's title will be assigned once her full $100 Deposit has been received. Her crown and sash will be ordered after entry fee payment has been received in full by the CT Belleza Latina Pageant. The CT Belleza Latina State Pageant is self-supporting and relies solely upon entry fees to cover production expenses. Production expenses include but are not limited to: advertising, hotel rentals, performers fees, judges' expenses, staging, supplies, prizes, awards, International Pageant Entry Fee etc.As of date, the entire percentage of the entry fee is directed back to each delegate in the form of crown, sash, entertainment, parties, gifts, and prizes. REFUND POLICY:All fees paid to the CT Belleza Latina Pageants are NOT REFUNDABLE and NOT TRANSFERABLE in full or in part for under any circumstances. This includes, but is not limited to entry fees, advertising fees, pageant admission ticket sales fees, guest meal fees and any other fees paid to the CT Belleza Latina Pageant by anyone including, but not limited to, delegates, sponsors, and advertisers. DEADLINES: The entry deadline is posted on the CT Belleza Latina Pageant website. Entry fees must be paid in full by the entry deadline. There will be no exceptions under any circumstances. All required delegate paperwork (e.g., Interview Form, Emcee Card, Traje Tipico card etc.) must be complete and received by the CT Belleza Latina Pageant STAFF by the paperwork deadline which is posted on our website.All deadlines are strictly enforced and must be adhered to by entrants. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Photography - Entrant must submit a headshot photo for the Belleza Latina website & Official Program Book. Also, a Photogenic Photo as specified in Competition Judging section. Only photos for the website and program book, may be emailed to ctbellezalatina_yahoo.com. Photogenic photo must be printed and handed in at pageant registration, during pageant weekend.Attire - Delegates provide their own competition and opening number attire. Travel - Delegates make their own travel arrangements. The CT Belleza Latina Pageant, is not responsible for arranging travel for the pageant competition. Hotel - Delegates are required to stay at the host hotel (unless delegate lives close enough to drive from home to pageant events each day & arrive on time). Delegates and their families must make their own hotel reservations.Minors - Delegates who are under 18 years of age as of the pageant date must be accompanied by an adult. The CT Belleza Latina Pageant assumes no responsibility for minors.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------CODE OF CONDUCT:Entrant affirms that she is and will continue to be a person of good moral character; that she has not committed and will not commit any act inconsistent with the highest standards of public morals and conventions or that will reflect unfavorably on the pageant, its representatives, sponsors and/or licensees; that she has not appeared in nude or provocative photographs for any film or publication prior to, during the preliminary or pageant finals, or during her reign should she become a State Winner & Titleholder. Delegate will conduct herself in a courteous, professional manner at all times during the CT Belleza Latina Pageant and while representing a Belleza Latina title. Delegate will not slander or libel other contestants, judges, Belleza Latina Pageants, the CT Belleza Latina staff or anyone else involved with or connected to the Belleza Latina Pageant System. Defamatory verbal and/or written remarks against Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. and the CT Belleza Latina Pageant will result in immediate disqualification, forfeiture of any and all prizes and awards won, and legal charges. Any delegate found publicly posting slanderous remarks on public forums will be immediately disqualified. Good sportsmanship is expected at all times. Disruptive behavior before, during, or after the pageant may result in disqualification, removal from the premises, and legal charges.Delegate agrees to sign a Code of Conduct statement indicating agreement to abide by the terms specified here. Failure to sign the Code of Conduct statement does not in any way release delegate from responsibility to abide by the Code of Conduct stated here.All issues related to the Code of Conduct and consequences for violation thereof shall be determined solely and exclusively by the CT Belleza Latina Pageant. Entrant agrees to accept such determinations made by CT Belleza Latina both as to herself and others.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Participation in CT Belleza Latina State Pageant Events:Delegates are expected to be on time and present for all scheduled rehearsals and events leading up to and during the pageant finals. In the event of illness, a delegate may be excused from attending an event. The CT Belleza Latina Pageant State Director, Marizol Gore, is the only individual with the authority to release a delegate from a scheduled event.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------International Winners Contract:If any of our State Titlholders should win the International Pageant, the CT Belleza Latina pageant staff will do its best to assist her in fulfilling her obligations as the International titleholder, but is not obligated to provide her with transportion or a camera for appearances.The CT Belleza Latina staff has posted the International Winners' Contract, so our delegates may know the expectations and requirements of an International Titleholder for Belleza Latina International™. If our State Titleholders should win the International Pageant she must be prepared to abide by and fulfill the requirements.If selected as a Belleza Latina International™ pageant winner, delegate agrees to sign a contract stating agreement to arrange and make a minimum of 15 appearances throughout her years reign. Appearances may include but are not limited to parades; radio, television and newspaper interviews; and public appearances at events. Winners are expected to provide Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. with photos of appearances for the Belleza Latina International Pageant® website and promotion. If delegate is unwilling to sign the contract and/or unable or unwilling to fulfill the obligations, the title won and all prizes will be awarded to the first runner up. The reign of the three overall Belleza Latina International Pageant™ winners (i.e., Miss Teen Belleza Latina™, Miss Belleza Latina™ &, Ms. Belleza Latina™) will commence immediately after crowning and will end immediately following the crowning of their successor.Belleza Latina International Pageant™ titleholders agree to make monthly contact with Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. by phone and/or e-mail.Belleza Latina International Pageant™ titleholders agree to provide Belleza Latina Pageants, inc. with photocopies of articles pertaining to her reign and pictures of appearances for the pageant history scrapbook.Overall Belleza Latina International Pageant™ titleholders agree that they will not enter any other pageant or compete for any other titles during their years reign without the prior written permission from Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. The Belleza Latina International Pageant™ title is the overall winners' main pageant-related priority. Winners are expected to give their time and energy to this title and this title only during their years reign. Permission for Belleza Latina International Pageant™ titleholders to participate in other pageants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.Winners may have a modeling, commercial tie-up, personal management and/or agency contract, which contract however does not include, authorize or permit the use of the name of the Belleza Latina International Pageant™, or any other registered tradename, trademark or logo of Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc., or any title designation or reference with respect to the pageant in any manner.International winners agree to attend the next years pageant to crown their successors. Winners travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be arranged for and paid by Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION:By virtue of participation in the CT Belleza Latina Pageant, delegate agrees to allow the Pageant the right to use her name, likeness, voice and/or biographical information for purposes of publicity and promotion now and in the future. Delegate understands that her name, likeness, voice, and/or biographical information may be used on the internet, in print advertising, press releases and merchandise related to the Belleza Latina International Pageant (e.g., t-shirts, tote bags, hats, other apparel, mouse pads, and other promotional materials.) Delegate agrees to release Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. from liability for any injury resulting from publicity and promotion. Delegate agrees to waive any and all compensation for use of her name, likeness, voice, and /or biographical information for purposes of publicity and promotion. Photography & Videography Delegates and their families are permitted to take photos and video during events leading up to the on-stage pageant competition event. Cameras or videography will not be allowed during any on-stage competition events. Individuals who fail to comply with this rule will be asked to leave the venue without benefit of refund for admission ticket. Professional photography and videography will be made available by the Official CT Belleza Latina Pageant Photographer and Videographer. Miss Connecticut Belleza Latina is a pageant system offering opportunities for Latinas across the state of Connecticut. CT Belleza Latina practices responsible marketing through its carefully monitored procedures. In addition to traditional communications medium, our pageant uses email to convey information about the event to families.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------PRIVACY POLICY:We respect our customers' time and attention by controlling the frequency of mailings to individual email addresses.If you change your interests, simply email us notifying our pageant to delete you from our contact list.How do we protect your privacy?We use strict security measures to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of data used by our system.Why did you receive an email from our system?If you received an email from us, it is because at some point you registered for one of our programs or requested information from us. If, for any reason, any of the three international winners resign or are disqualified, the 1st runner-up in the appropriate age division will assume the title and all prizes.LIMITATION OF LIABILITY / RESPONSIBILITY:a.) The CT Belleza Latina Pageant, its officers, employees, and pageant personnel are not responsible for accidents, injury or theft incurred at the time of the CT Belleza Latina State Pageant or the Belleza Latina International Pageant or travel to and from. b.) The CT Belleza Latina pageant is not responsible for negligence or fraud on the part of the host hotel. c.) The CT Belleza Latina pageant is not responsible for arranging local, national, &/or international travel or intervening / resolving disputes surrounding international travel to the United States of America for the pageant competition.d.) Belleza Latina Pageants, Inc. is not responsible for providing an interpreter for delegates who do not speak or understand English. Please note that the State Director is fluent in Both English & Spanish, and the pageant will provide the delegates with bilingual judges.e.) The CT Belleza Latina Pageant is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage caused to any and all prizes, gifts, and awards bestowed upon entrant after these items become the property of entrant. Entrant agrees to incur replacement and/or repair costs to lost, stolen, or damaged items including but not limited to: crown/tiara, sash, plaques, trophies, etc. AGREEMENT:By submitting the entry form and fee(s) to CT Belleza Latina, delegate agrees to abide by all policies, rules and regulations set forth by the CT Belleza Latina Pageants. Participation in the CT Belleza Latina Pageant also indicates acceptance and agreement to abide by all policies, rules and regulations set forth by the CT Belleza Latina Pageant. Delegate attests that all information submitted to the CT Belleza Latina Pageant is true and accurate. Falsification of information and failure to comply with the policies of CT Belleza Latina may result in immediate disqualification and/or forfeiture of prizes won without benefit of refund in full or in part at the sole discretion of the CT Belleza Latina State Pageant.
