What is Toastmaster

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, USA, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The nonprofit organization now has nearly 260,000 members in more than 12,500 clubs in 113 countries, offering a proven and enjoyable! way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.The newly established KUWANA Toast Masters Club in located in Kuwana city, Mie , Japan. We hold meetings in the city and decided to help as many speech-difficult poeple as possible. We don't make bread!

Greetings

We have 107 Toastmasters clubs in Japan and there are thousands more worldwide.It dawned on me that I should establish one in my hometown of Kuwana.My name is Mikiya Matsuo.Historically, Kuwana has always been an important transportation hub.There are many people here who want to be good speakers and effective leaders.Be the person you want to be through Toastmasters.

Toastmasters International District 76 is the organization that represent all Japan Toastmasters Club. All over Japan, over 2,800 members in 107 clubs are practicing speech and leadership.The main events are: #1: International Speech Contest in Spring (English and Japanese)#2: Speech Contest in Fall (English and Japanese)Details are here.

ADVERTISING The biggest club in Nagoya area. Both English and Japanese you can enjoy meetings. They had an all Japan speech champion in 2011.You can learn a lot about speech, and leadership.3 Saturdays in a month you can join from 6PM.Details are here.

MEDIA Amazingly an biology teacher established this club about 10 years ago. His experience in Hawaii propelled him to re-study English. Since then he has been supported this club while teaching biology in high school.The participants are about 20 whose English ability seems around STEP 2 ~ STEP semi1 grade.What is his secret? PUBLIC RELATIONS With friendly and welcomed atomosphere you can enjoy twice in a month. The meeting is held 2nd and 4th Sunday from 1:30PM in Inuyama.This club is one of the oldest club in Japan that has been for over 25 years!Details are here.

We also had a business session to discus club activities. Well, as usual, we had exciting meeting with enthusiastic participants. We always use Japanese and English in meeting so you can enjoy whether you are mono-lingual. Please feel free to join us!<25 Sept 2011> We held the meeting in an interesting place, called "The HAMAGURI Plaza". This is the place where you can see what Kuwana is all about. We experienced a wonderful meeting as usual. The most amazing was evaluations and speeches made by non-Toastmasters. They got the hang of how to speak and evaluation in a last few participation. Especially, no-Ah speech was made by them. We, Toastmasters, have to learn about it.<4 Sept 2011>The planned meeting on Sept. 4 was cut off due to the heavy rainstorm. OOooop....s I joined Toastmasters international Speech Contest held in Las Vegas. It was only 5-day stay, but all the participants and contestants enjoyed a lot. Here. I show you beautiful message from pat johnson, immediate past president of toastmaster International.<7 Aug 2011> The second meeting was held in the same place and time. Very exciting and enthusiastic, we enjoyed all the sessions and roles. In the second meeting, we tried "chain evaluation". This worked out as the following system; 1 speaker has 1 first evaluator. The first evaluator has 2 other evaluators. The other 2 has each two evaluators. How funny it was! We have 5 guests and 5 toastmasters and the guest had rarely been evaluated what they spoke. For experienced toastmasters, it was good opportunity to check how carefully they listen. We all had the first experience in this try. Lastly, special thanks to speakers for great speaches, to the guest evaluators for the good first try, and to the TMOD for controlling whole meeting in a smart way. Next is more fun, I promisse. Don't miss it!<17 July 2011> Special thanks to participants and ELETE cleaning corp., we successfully achieve our 1st goal. We had a wonderful time with 10 participants, including coming far away from Hiroshima, Gifu, Toyohashsi, Okazaki, and Nagoya. Also we had a local advertiser who accepted writing article on their paper issuing the end of July. Also we tried out a new speech system which allowed us using two languages: Japanese and English. In this case, we studied comparison directly which language was favorable in meeting. Some knew how Japanese was wonderful in speech, the others learned English is useful to speech. Both are OK, both are correct. We found our mission that we corporate and collaborate to be "a good speaker and good listener" in Japanese and English. Lastly, we appreciate the District 76 Governor TM Suzuki and theDivision E Governor, TM Nakano, who motivated us to be a good Toastmaster.
