Welcome to the James Monroe High School Army JROTC program, home of the Viking Battalion. A new school year begins and new leaders await their fate and destiny. School Year 10-11 will challenge many of you, some physically, mentally, academically and even your ability to lead. But as in the past, nothing is accomplish without new leaders willing to continue the Viking legacy. New activities and events awaits the Viking Battalion cadets as the year goes on. Remember that the Viking Battalion always strives for excellence.
The mission of JROTC is to motivate young people to be better citizens. This means that every cadet in the program has the opportunity to participate in all our activities. We have school and community service, All-City competition in marching events such as Company with 44 cadets , Platoon with 25 cadets Squad with nine cadets, Armed and Un-armed Drill Teams with 10-16 cadets each, Color Guard, Air Rifle marksmanship and Academic Achievement competition for all our brainy cadets.
There will be more information on training and tryouts at a later time. Once again I challenge all of you to get involved. 98% of the cadets involved in JROTC activities graduate from high school, will you be graduating on time?
GET INVOLED! GENIUS IS 1% INSPIRATION AND 99% PERSPIRATION. ACCORDINGLY A GENIUS IS OFTEN MERELY A TALENTED PERSON WHO HAS DONE ALL OF HIS OR HER HOMEWORK. -Thomas Edison
