History
Nigret Youth Centre remembers it's opening back in December 2003. The Group was brought to life by 8 members at that time. The meeting place was at St.Patrick's Hall every Tueday at seven.
The group soon began to grow in number, and felt that it needed a place that it can call it's own. After viewing the options, Fr. Mario Said suggested of transforming the basement at St. Luke's Pastoral Centre from a store into a Youth Centre. The Youth's liked the idea and soon began the hard work to make it a welcoming place for youths. They stripped the walls, repainted them, passed appropriate lighting, cleaned the place and gave it a new life. From here the group, which was still nameless, adopted the name of Nigret Youth Centre (N.Y.C.)
Spiritual Directors of N.Y.C. through the years
Fr. Mario Said was the founder of N.Y.C. He served N.Y.C. as spiritual director for 2 years between 2003 and 2005. Today Fr. Mario is the Arch-priest of Ghaxaq.
Fr. Ivan Scicluna served N.Y.C. as a Spiritual Director between 2005 and 2007. At that time Fr. Ivan left N.Y.C. with nice memories of sports and a games-room. Fr. Ivan today serves as an Arch-priest of Santa Lucija.
Fr. Loius Farrugia is the present Spiritual Director, and has been serving N.Y.C. from late 2007
The Core Group is made up of 6 persons, who consist of the Youth Leader, Assistant Youth Leader, Spiritual Director, P.R.O., Cashier and a Religious Animator.
The Role of the Core Group is to take care of the day to day running of the youth-centre and administration tasks. The Core Group must always take care that the youth centre is clean and in that everything is in order. This makes the place a more pleasant place for the youths to meet.
Another task that the Core Group has at hand is the organisation of the upcoming months meeting schedule. This is done by identifying the needed topics to discuss, special events and socializing activities, bringing them forward and organising a schedule for the coming two months in advance.

Apart from the Members, Nigret Youth Centre has a Spiritual Director that would be the Rector of the Pastoral Centre. At present the Youth Centre has Fr. Louis Farrugia as Spiritual Director.
Nigret Youth Centre meets every Friday Night _ the St. Luke's Pastoral Centre in Nigret Rabat, between 7.00pm and pm.
Weekly meetings are varied and based upon the needs of the youths at the time. These meetings range from religious topics to prayer meetings, from character building to personal development and a whole lot of topics. But apart from th enormal meetings, N.Y.C. tries to pass religiuos virtues through our normal lives, thus it plans a lot of activities for it's youths like cook-outs, night-hikes, horse-riding, sports activities and weekend live-ins. Members also have their chance at preparing a meeting on which ever topic he/she likes, be it religious, a hobby or just a topic that interests him/her. This in turn creates in the youth a sense of commitment, discipline and highers one's self-esteem.
All meetings are planned beforehand thanks to the dedications of the Core Group which makes sure that everything is well set every week.
N.Y.C. tries to plan meetings and acivities where one can relax, and take a break rom the normal routine of school or work, whike creating a family atmosphere.
N.Y.C. is always geared up to keep this group alive and kicking - growing in youths and being there for it's members. The group is always ready for new experiences and new faces. N.Y.C. knows that there still are a lot of youths searching for a reason in their life, but have not found it yet. We, _ N.Y.C., plan in helping these youths while giving them a scope in life - Jesus Christ - in a modern youthful way.
As time passes by, N.Y.C's members, core group and administration will change, but our aim will remain untouched. That of creating an alternative place for youths to meet by youths - in a healthy and safe environment.
