MetroDad
Your are about to read the story of a man- a man who decided to write his memoirs not at the end of his life, but as he lives it.
MetroDad isnt so much a straight narrative of that life, but more an emotional recording of it. Like a band putting down their lyrics and instruments on a vinyl record. In the same way sound creates grooves that we experience every time we listen, his blog entries create grooves, we read, that allow us to hear the story of his life unfold, both in our imaginations as well as on the streets of New York.
The story you are about to read is called MetroDad because it is from the MetroDad blog. It is a compilation of his blog entries, slightly reformatted to be read as a longer piece of work, rather than in short daily increments.
It is about a Korean-American guy who start a blog just before becoming a father. But the story he tells is not just about a guy getting ready to be a dad. It is about a guy in his thirties, living in NYC, just going about his life.
He lets you in on life in the Big Apple. The careers, the culture, the routines and the imperfections. And he does so with the undeniable humor that comes only from hindsight. He writes about his life in a bizarre first and third person POV mind meld, that gels because he had a few moments, hours or days to look back at it. But not too long- otherwise MetroDad would be just another memoir.
No matter the situation, (short of life or death) you can always find something funny to say about it after some time has passed. It is how we deal with the ups and downs of life. Just like everything else, for every positive there is a negative.
And this new type of novel has a twist; the blogger himself is not the only creator of the work. There are reader comments, by the dozens. Each added sentence from each random reader is a sidebar, or, if the same readers post often enough, subplots.
So, we will start this tale not with MetroDads first entry, but with his biography, which should give you a sense of what you are about to experience, and some back-story as well.
I will give you a place to start. A quick bio and a link to the star of this whole thing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Thirry
A Blovel
This is the beginning of a life-based novel.
This is about you reading a blog.
Not about you going online everyday and following a blog. That is pretty common, and usually something everyone does once in awhile.
This is about you reading a blog in linear fashion, with imagination instead of nosiness, and the sensation of reading a book, or watching a television series (if you allow yourself to go there).
Sometimes its a sitcom. Sometimes its a rant. But in its every form, it is the story of a mans life. Think of it as a new kind of long-form storytelling.
Like a novel, or a good yarn told by some old guy you met at the bar.
So lets experiment, see what pans out in this guys life, see how the story unfolds.
