One of your earlier pieces that stood out to me was "In With The New". Its a bit graphic. Does that seem to affect how people see the piece?
You know, I used to think so, but Ive received more positive understanding of it than negative comments. It was maybe a bit shocking to a few older or more conservative people at one point, but ultimately the cool people get it. It was never about suicide or violence. My guns are metaphorical (as all art really is,) and thats not brains and blood coming out, its some kind of abstract essence, old bad ideas and thoughts getting ejected, like taking out the trash. The piece is about frustration with oneself. Its as harmless as saying youre going to kill yourself because youre stuck in traffic. I know the piece is edgy, its meant to get your attention. You can even call it immature, but it was always meant to make you ask, what drives someone to desperation? Could anything have helped along the way? Ive felt that way and survived.
What are your plans for the future, where do you want to take your career, your gallery, and your art?
Well besides wanting to get some shows in other cities, gaining new connections, and focusing on new originals all the time... I have an all new show scheduled this December for Brett Wesley and it should be in his brand new show space. Im very excited about this show, I have a wonderful idea for it but cant explain away too much this early. Im currently designing some artwork, logo, album cover, T-shirts, etc., for a local Vegas rock band named Otherwise theyre a great bunch of guys and I love their music.
But maybe the real clever answer is; my art is going to take me somewhere, not the other way around. Sometimes Im just a pawn to these visions and am just trying to catch up to wherever I think its dragging me.
