Leopold & His Fiction
When I first began thinking about doing a Mag of some sort that would cover the Las Vegas “scene”, some 4 or so years ago, I had the idea that it would be easy to do, just throw some words and pictures together and that was about it.
Boy was I wrong. I mean yeah, if I just wanted to do that, it might be easy, but once I got to actually planning this thing I knew that wasn’t what I wanted to do at all.
The whole point in making something like this was to follow the plan that I had set for myself in my other pursuits. Work on building a better community for Vegas, one that would encompass all the things that I feel are important to living a decent and rich life in any city.
Music, art, words, film, food and friends. Those are some pretty basic building blocks for that life, so that is where I wanted to start. To get an idea of what needed to be done, I fell back on my years of reading magazines. I am a periodical junky. I read somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or so a month, not counting the online stuff. So from that experience I knew that I wanted a culture magazine as opposed to a music or art magazine. I wanted fun design, using lots of graphics and photos with the words, and I wanted content that would inform, inspire and incline people to be more active in this community.
The biggest challenge in all of this is creating that content. Finding things that I can bring to you, the reader, that will keep you coming back for the next installment.
To this end I have decided to not even try to do everything myself, and began asking for people to contribute to their own community by sending me stuff to work with. So here is our first issue, given away freely via the net, full of things that the people we know have to say about the things we care about. To say the least, this is a work in progress, and each issue will have it’s ups and downs. But I hope that people will give back to us by submitting their own work for you to see. This is about community, remember, and that includes all of us.
