PADDLE TO THE BEAT OF THE DRUM
Narooma Blue Water Dragons celebrated their first birthday last Saturday with a song. Composed and recorded by local musician, Merinda Hurren, the song reflects the spirit of Narooma's Dragon Boat Club and was inspired by a boat load of blue shirts looking good and having fun on Wagonga Inlet on Australia Day 2011.
Narooma Blue Water Dragons has made quite an impact since moving to the Inlet from Corunna Lake in January this year. The Clubs community focus has attracted new members and has developed a reputation as a well run and welcoming club. Blue Water Dragons has an ambitious plan to promote dragon boating in Narooma and to promote Narooma in the fast developing dragon boat community.
The Clubs successful inter-Club paddling day at this years Oyster Festival with Moruya and Merimbula clubs has encouraged the committee to look towards inviting Canberra clubs to travel to Narooma to get a taste of dragon boating on one of Australias best waterways.
Blue Water Dragons hope to develop the sport in Narooma by introducing dragon boating to students at Narooma High School. The club also plans to run day time midweek sessions for parents of school aged children as well as offering paddling for the over 50s whod like to get fit and stay fit in a fun and social atmosphere.
The 2011-2012 season is about to start so anyone who would like to look good and have fun with the blue shirts of Naroomas dragon boat club should contact Peter or Kathryn on 4476 3952 or email narooma.bwd_gmail.com
