Net-zero housing combines the comfort of traditional homes with sustainable technologies. Through the use of Passive House goals such as thicker walls full of insulation, cross-ventilation, passive solar heating, and an air-tight envelope, combined with Dow Solar Shingles , our design achieves net-zero energy standards.
Long and narrow in form along with preferred solar orientation the house excels in passive heating and cooling while integrating itself within the community. A central core and wrapping staircase are the backbone for each unit. Minimal interior walls create maximum ventilation and shared heat. Each unit is built off the next creating a prototypical situation, easily repeated throughout the country with minor changes in accordance with climate. Exterior spaces create private areas for each unit yet are integrated together through the wrapping motif. The remaining site is to be used by residents and a community greenspace.
