Each month student's will receive monthly sight words. Each time your student learns their sight words for the month, they will earn a sea animal charm. At the end of the year we will string all of the beads and charms that the student has earned for them to wear.

Peek at the week:Sight Words for the Month of JanuaryBig so his do not for are into (please continue practicing the other sight words from previous months) Reading/ELA/Social Studies This week we began to read thematic stories about mittens and learn facts about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Students wrote about their dreams for the school, the community, their families and for themselves. This display is in the school cafeteria if you get a chance to come up and see it. Students continue segmenting words and have become very good at it. We have begun learning how to hear the vowel sound in the middle of the word. We are currently working on short vowel sound a. Students are also practicing to make words using the cvc pattern, consonant, vowel, consonant. Please continue working with them on this using the short vowel a sound. We have book buddies. The 9th grade ELA class will be our book buddies. They will come and do shared reading with us every two weeks. We enjoyed reading with them today. We will read with them again in two weeks. If your student has a book that they’ve been wanting you to read but you just can’t find the time to read it, they can bring it in for their book buddy to read to them on those days. Math – Please review the following vocabulary with your student: as many as, fewer, less than, greater than, one, two, three, more, count, zero.The new vocabulary for the month will be: six, seven, eight, nine, ten, data, graph, backward, forward. Students are learning how to gather data and present it in a graph. Science- What’s outside our door, weather.Social Studies – Martin Luther King Reminders: • No School – Jan. 16th• Junie B. Jones Trip Money New Due Date – Jan. 17th • Scholastic Book orders are due Jan. 27th, (they do have some AR level books in there. Unfortunately many are not low level, but I encourage you to build up your students library in preparation for the future.) Don’t forget you can also go through our class website to purchase books and pay online.
