2nd Quarter Begins October 17th New Start for Middle School Students Now that the 1st Quarter is over, students get an opportunity to either continue their excellent start or simply start over.

WELCOME to 6th Grade!

The Honor Roll Breakfast on Thursday November 10th is an morning event that celebrate middle school students who performed well academically during the 1st Quarter in all their classes. Parents of these students are invited to join our Principal Mr. Barber and the middle school teachers to breakfast treats as these we recognize these students for their hard work in their classes.

Outdoor Adventures Club

Purpose & Goals

Our student organization, The Outdoor Adventures Club, seeks to provide experiential learning opportunities for 6th, 7th & 8th graders at Don Callejon K-8 School. For further information please contact Mrs. Brown (dbrown_scusd.net) or Mr. Tu (xtu_scusd.net)Short term goals include exploration and appreciation of our natural environments with weekly visits to Ulistac Park, occasional weekend outings involving activities such as hiking, team-building games, and many others. Long term goals may include overnight and fee based activiites, extending membership to include younger students (4th & 5th graders), and a mentorship component involving cross grade partnerships.Club members are currently limited to the middle school students. There will be a community service requirement for all members that may include working at Ulistac on Tuesdays afterschool, helping with the recycling program during the school day, tending the school garden, and various other possibilities involving the environment. Members will maintain a Club Journal detailing each activity members participate in, learning experiences earned and community service provided. Members will self select groups to make presentation at the end of the year celebration.

Tuesdays _ Ulistac

Wilcox High School science teacher Mr. Dennis Dowling and his students from his environmental student organization regularly visit Ulistac Natural Park on Lick Mill Blvd to help manage and maintain several areas of the park. Our affiliation with Mr. Dowling and his students allow us to support his student organization's goals while providing our own student members experiential opportunities with various activities including informative nature walks, planting, weeding, mulching, gardening techniques, etc. It is recommended students use sunscreen, bring a hat, a water bottle, & wear appropriate clothing to work outdoors. Meet at rooms B4 or B5 (6th grade hallway) for the Tuesdays 2:45pm to 5:00pm visits to Ulistac Park. Students must arrange their own transportation home from school.

Weekend Adventures

There will some weekend activities that require parents to drive. Some will be free and some will incur some costs associated with the activity. As the club develops over time, a core set of activities will be established on the calendar. For now, group members and other stakeholders will generate ideas and will try to develop various adventures on weekends and non-school days.The first weekend adventure will be Saturday October 1st to Castle Rock Park. More details to follow...

Do you have a passion for the environment or just enjoy the great outdoors? If you would like to support our students by adding to their knowledge of environmental issues or simply share your expertise (give a talk or presentation, teach a skill, participate in various club activities) and experience with outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, etc., please contact Mrs. Brown (dbrown_scusd.net) or Mr. Tu (xtu_scusd.net). Since some of the activities and adventures will involve fees, monetary and equipment donations are also accepted. For further information please contact us.
