We will have a quiz on Tuesday over the methods of factoring a number. We have math homework every night, Monday-Thursday. Bio Information:
I have been married to Michael Jackson for almost 12 years. Together, we have two daughters. Katie is four years old and a zany girl that keeps me on my toes. Julie is 11 and in the 5th grade in Rogersville. She is very active and we spend alot of time going to her different activities! They are awesome girls that have blessed my life in MANY ways!
In my free time, I love to read all types of books and go to movies with my mom and daughters. I also love to watch Glee--you could call me a Gleek, for sure! Additionally, I enjoy spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking and gardening in the summer time. I am very involved in my church, Wesley United Methodist.

Disruptive Behavior: e.g. tapping pencil, shouting out, talking to neighbor (any behavior which interferes with learning)
I give a respectful request to change that behavior: I need eyes on me, please.
If student doesnt follow the request, they will do the following: REFOCUS in my room or a Buddy teachers room. Child stays in a learning environment.
Welcome to a new school year!!! This is an exciting time in which I have been given the opportunity to teach your child. In order to do that I would like explain the behavior management system that has been implemented throughout Mark Twain Elementary.
I know how important it is that I establish a relationship with your child that shows them I care, that I am interested in their learning and interested in them as human beings. Therefore, it is my responsibility to teach them my classroom expectations. My goal is to teach them to be exemplary learners, which will allow me to be an exemplary teacher!
However, I know that kids will be kids and there are times when behavior will disrupt the learning environment. When this occurs, the behavior will be addressed in a mater-of-fact tone, with respect and little disruption to the rest of the class and my teaching. Below is a chart to show what your child will experience if he/she disrupts my teaching, his/her learning or the learning of other students.
REFOCUS is an opportunity for your child to take ownership of his/her behavior, understand it, make an action plan and put plan in action immediately. REFOCUS forms are not sent home. I keep them for my records for the purpose of looking for patterns of disruption. If a pattern starts to show up then close communication between school and parents will be initiated.
If serious offenses occur, then students will receive a referral to the principal. Examples would include actions that harm other students, weapons, or drugs/alcohol. Additionally, repeat offenses will be referred to the principal. All discipline will be handled in accordance to our building and district policies.
I want this to be a GREAT year for your child. Communication between school and home is crucial in making a successful school year. Your support is very much appreciated.

Mark Twain Calendar
I am so excited to have your child for Writers Workshop. I have been teaching at Mark Twain for two years, and I have to say that writing is my favorite subject! My goal this year is to help your child become a better writer.
We will be doing several different types of writing this year. These include: narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing. Every day your child will write for at least 15 minutes, and then we will work to craft our writing into stories and essays. We will spend time collecting ideas, or seeds, and learning the process that authors go through including: drafting, revising, editing, and publishing our work.
There will be two projects this year. The first project is in the fall and it will deal with figurative language. The second project is a hard-bound book that we will create in January and February.
If you have any questions about your childs writing or any of the activities that we do in my class, please feel free to contact me at any time!
This week we are writing to a prompt so that I can assess the needs of individual students. The prompt is provided by Springfield Public Schools. We will write to a prompt again around Winter Break and at the end of the year. I will be able to track the progress that your student is making throughout the year.
