We're off to a good start. The children have settled in to a first grade routine and making progress.
We are working hard on writing. The children need to be sure to use capital letters at the beginning of their sentences, periods at the end, capitalize the word "I", and add details/adjectives to their writings.
Science and Social Studies are integrated into Language Arts this year. In Social Studies, we have studied 5 famous americans and 3 holidays. In science, we have talked about what a scientist is and does. We have studied summer and fall. Now we are working with interactions with water.
We are beginning differentiated Word Study which will allow students to work toward better spelling.

about me ABOUT ME
I've lived in Virginia Beach for 13 years now. I taught one year of science in a middle school and 7 years of 5th grade before moving to 1st grade 4 years ago. Early in my teaching career I taught Kindergarten (3 years), 4th grade (1 year) and then 5th grade (4 years) in the country in Virginia on the Chesapeake Bay. I even taught French in high school for 5 months substituting for the teacher who was battling cancer. I've also taught adult education GED classes and adult literacy classes.
I am the mom of 4 sons. They are all grown now with jobs of their own...earning more than mom!
I'm married to a great guy who is a musician. He is a guitarist. We have music in common as I also play guitar.
Some of my interests include music, reading, languages, photography and computers.
