Death Takes a Holiday is getting ready to take the stage during the Month of March.

On Saturday, May 8th, Edwin DeLaRiva, a ninth grader, was accompanied by Alexis Delariva and MPHS Theatre director Ms. Vivian Warren to the State Theatrical Design Contest in Austin. Edwin's set design received an Exemplary rating.
Edwin's set design for the play Antigone qualified for state. The prompt for the contest required the students to design a set for the Greek play Antigone.
The requirement states it could not be designed in the original Greek style. Students had to design the play in another time period. Edwin DeLaRiva designed Antigone with a medieval set. Each entry must have an audience view of what the set would look like, a ground plan, a collage of design ideas and a justification paper explaining why he chose that time period and why he designed the set the way he did - using stairs, doors, platforms etc. The audience view and the ground plan had to be to scale. So not only did Edwin have to design a set, the theatrical design contests calls upon the student to understand the historical period they are designing, color meanings and correlation, mathematical scale, reasoning of why he designed the set, and research techniques of ideas used. The designs then had to be mounted - so the presentation of the project was also important.
While in Austin, Edwin and Alexis visited the state capitol for the first time. The students enjoyed seeing the chambers and various pictures of governors and Texas' president. On the way home, the students were treated to a stop at Salado's Stagecoach Restaurant where many famous historical figures had stayed.

Prohibition officer - who was finally executed because of his involvement in bootlegging.
Mario Aguilar brought to life - Confederate Colonel and Texas Colonel.
