5th Grade
Original Works Magnet project: Georgia OKeeffe Flowers
Our 5th graders studied the artist Georgia OKeeffe. They learned all about how she became a famous artist, and that she was famous for painting flowers that were VERY LARGE! Our 5th graders practiced flowers, then drew them LARGE onto their paper. They then traced them with oil pastel and used paints to add color. They added white to colors to make them lighter, creating tints. They also added black making some colors darker, creating shades. How light and dark is called Value. The students also kept in mind colors that contrast when painting their pictures for the best overall effect.
