Original Works Magnet Project: Self Portraits
The first grade art students learned about self portraits. A self portrait is a picture of yourself. The students used a ruler to draw a border all around their paper, then filled it with pattern. They used mirrors to help them draw their self-portrait in the middle. After tracing every line with a permanent marker, they used people colors and regular crayons to add color. The last step was to color their pattern with a color. These pictures turned out amazing!
Circle Overlap designs
Our first graders learned about Non-Objective designs. Non-Objective art is art that does not look like objects. In other words, it is simply designs and patterns. The students used rulers to draw straight lines and circle stencils to cover their papers with circles. They learned that overlapping means to draw or color on top of something else. After their drawing was done, they used crayons to color each shape a different color. Using good coloring technique, the students first outlined the shape, then filled it in very carefully. They also layered their shapes by overlapping the colors. They colored in a shape then another color right on top, causing the colors to blend together and create new colors.
