Honor God
1Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
At Westwood it is our desire to honor God with who we are and the way we do ministry. We try to accomplish this is in three ways.
1. We are gospel-centered. We believe it is the responsibility of the church to teach and preach the gospel as presented to us in the scriptures. The message of the gospel cannot be forgotten. (Romans 1:16 I Corinthians 1:18 )
2. We are Biblically-sound. We believe that the Bible is God's Word and therefore eternal in its relevance and power. We teach and preach from the Bible so that we can model to our students, not only how to understand it, but how to live it. (Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16,17 2 Peter 2:19-21)
3. We are grace-driven. We believe that we are saved by grace and that this same grace which saves us, teaches us. Because of this, we teach and serve with grace, understanding that we are people in need of change, helping people in need of change. (Ephesians 2:8,9 II Corinthians 5:14, 15 Titus 2:11,12)
Parents are Primary
We believe that parents are the primary trainers and teachers of their children. As a parent, you have an tremendous task ahead of you, and we don't won't you to forfeit that task to us or anyone else. Someone will train your child, we want it to be you.
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Resource Train Involve
We believe that it is the job of the church to resource, train, and involve parents. We like to refer to it as: RTI
Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Reach Train Serve
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
We believe that our job is to share the gospel with as many as possible. We do this in creative and biblical ways.
We believe that our job is to train believers for growth and service. We do this through consistent biblical teaching and through partnering with parents.
We believe that youth should serve in their local church. They should not see themselves as part of a separate church. As they serve the church, they will discover their gifts and see that they are an important part of the church body.
