Jazz dance started in Africa in the 1800s, and has constantly been changing and evolving. Today there are over ten styles of jazz. Breakdance or breaking is a street-based dance that incorporates intricate body movements, coordination, style, and aesthetics. The people who perform this style of dance are known as b-boys or b-girls. Music is an essential part of breaking, but hip-hop is not the only option. 70's soul, funk, and even jazz tunes all work as well.

When we dance we are communincating; when we dance unto the Lord, we communicate our heart to Him. This class combines different styles of dance in order to build a full dance vocabulary to Worship the Lord through. This is an expression of Dance that is more about the heart than the moves and will encourage every dancer to find their own dance to offer up as worship to the Lord.

Adrienne is one of the founding memebers of Anew Dance and our resident breakdance instructor. When not teaching dance for Anew you might find her throwing down at the Street Performers in Spruce Grove, Performing with her Crew at fashion shows and other events, giving her talent to church in worship and on missions or dancing for local and proffesional Hip-Hop Mc's. She has been perfecting her craft for over 10 years and instructing for over 6 years. Her passion for dance is infectious and she takes complete joy in being able to impart what she has learned over the years, to her students. Adrienne believes that everyone has creativity in them and she desires to draw that creativity out of her students. She has a particular gift in helping them bridge their own personality and flavor into the moves she teaches. Performance is an important part of growth, so she bridges students into the community to show their skills at local events like the fashion shows put on by the City of Stony Plain's FCSS and at the youth conference
held at Living Waters School..
With creative choreography
and cool costumes, her
classes also never cease to
amaze when it comes to the Christmas and year end recitals. Because of her ability to create a fun, safe environment as well as her skill level, Adrienne has many repeat stundents that have been with her for several years...and the word continues to spread, with requests for her to teach for in local schools and the City's of Spruce Grove and Stony Plain summer dance programs. So come out and join the fun and challenging atmosphere and be prepared to tap into and release a creativity that you didn't know you had.
Becky started at Anew Dance School as a student and is no in her fifth year as the hip- hop teacher. Dance and movement began at an early age and she has continued it all her life. Trained in ballet, lyrical, jazz, contemporary, pointe and of course hip-hop. Even though she enjoys all styles of dance, hip- hop soon made it to the top of her list and has become her number one passion in dance In addition to teaching at Anew Dance School she has also previously taught at Karar studios. Dance has always been a big part of Becky’s life and she has participated in many festivals and performances such as Global Day of Prayer, Hip- Hop for Hope, Artist Emerge to name a few. She has also taught dance at Paul band reserve and helped choreograph the High School Musical play for Spruce Grove Composite high school. For the last four years Becky has danced in Guatemala and El Salvador. There she has helped run dance conferences and teaching dance as a form of ministry in schools, orphanages, churches and prisons.
Through dance she has been able to connect and communicate with the Central American people without even knowing the language. To bring the love of God without speaking but through dance has been such an amazing blessing Becky teaches a variety of styles of hip-hop but also hopes to impart a love of dance into each person. To watch and help them learn new things, to achieve the challenges and moves they thought they could never do. Hip-hop is not just about moves it
is about the
feeling behind
the moves and
about finding
the dance in
your heart and
then letting
your feet
release it.
Thea is the newest addition to the Anew family of teachers. We are very excited to have her and beleive that with her expertise and heart to train dancers, she will bring somthing very special to the school.
Starting dance as a small girl, Thea knew without a doubt that she had found her expression. Waiting all week for her dance class to come around, it was the thing she took the most joy in. After high school Thea was eager for more dance and enrolled in Grant Macewan's Dance Program where she was able to emurse herself into full time dance training. Somthing was concreted in Thea in those years, she would always have a love and desire to connect with the world and share her dance through preformances. Thea, now a proud wife and mother, still loves to dance, perform and impart her gift through teaching. She looks forward to sharing her dance with all of you through the choreography that she creats for the students.
Thea is a dedicated dancer, trained in Ballet, Modern and Lyrical, and comes highly recommended. We feel that students of all ages will love taking her classes and will leave each week feeling expanded as dancers.
Jenna is the tap and jazz teacher this year at Anew. She is passionate about teaching and loves sharing her passion of dance with others. Jenna is trained in many styles of dance including ballet, modern, jazz, and tap which is her favorite. Jenna's goal with her students is to instill a true love of dance and built upon the unique gifts and abilities of each dancer. Her philosophy is... Everyone can dance
She started dance in Morinville at the age of 4 and never looked back. She competed in many festivals and competitions and has completed examinations for tap and ballet up until the age of seventeen. She has taught dance for eight years and has an education degree to top it all off. She is fantastic with kids and simply has a heart to see them grow and learn. She loves being creative and letting the kids explore and discover how to express themselves using their bodies in dance.
Her bubbly personality is contagious, leaving most kids at the end of the year wishing they had just one more class with 'miss Jenna'. She loves dance and personally dances often in her own time. She says it's to stay fit but we know it's really for the fun and the joy.
Nicole is one of our ballet instructors specializing in wee little aspiring ballerinas. She is currently completing her personal fitness-training program and has a passion for people to reach their optimum fitness levels and goals. When she's not teaching dance or fitness training she is a full time mom to two beautiful children. Her dance journey began at the age of 3 and her desire to express, create and worship through dance has only grown over the years. She has experience in most dance styles but prefers the beauty and grace of ballet and lyrical. Nicole enjoys teaching and seeing the fruit of all her students’ hard work and the joy that it brings them to accomplish a step, a sequence and finally a dance
