When the band is called ...Unexplained Transmissions and features Randall Nieman of Fuxa, you would probably not be surprised to find that the album is not easily described. If I had to plump for a single phrase, it would be The sound of a spaceship slowly manoeuvring into docking position. If ballet was the type of activity that took place in zero gravity and slow motion, I might be tempted to add something balletic to the description too. UT obviously think along similar lines, naming the first two tracks "Spacewalk" and "Airlock". Back on Earth, the best we can do is glide, gentle, murmur and relax. ~ ROBOTS AND ELECTRONIC BRAINS ~

UNEXPLAINED TRANSMISSIONS nod in the direction of ambient progenitor Brian Eno and the Teutonic touchstones of the '70s space music so stimulating to Unexplained Transmissions and other musicians in their circle. Like their forebears, Neiman and Kassab appreciate the inspirational power of sound. UNEXPLAINED TRANSMISSIONS invites one to imagine outer--or inner--spaces free from the visual references enforced by Kubrick, Lucas, Scott, Tarkovski, and video game/comic book cultures. In a sense, music like this is the ultimate amusement, cueing the mind to dream up an infinite array of universes and impossible worlds. Think of these 61 minutes as a mental aid, and let the games continue long after "-" subsides into silence. The only limitation is your own imagination. ~THE WIRE~

started in 1997 as a pure electronic outlet for Randall Nieman of Füxa fame. engineered by Erik Kassab of Gravity Wax, ...Unexplained Transmissions released 2 ltd 12" singles on Mind Expansion. the "Spacewalk ep" and "+/- ep". both ep's are limited to 500 copies and pressed on colored vinyl. all songs were recorded live to dat june 1st 1997 by converting a live nasa video feed of earth (from space) as well as other stars and galaxies into a midi signal triggering various synths. Randall then played live on top of the generated sounds. the idea was to have space playing space (with some added space). so, what you are listening to is us playing live to the converted video image of earth and space as it was on june 1st 1997. singles recieved rave reviews and the U.K.'s Ochre record label released the 2 singles on one cd in 2000. ...Unexplained Transmissions have also appeared on the Mass Transfer magazine compilation cd as well as a freebee cd given away by Antenna records in 2003. theres a follow up in the works titled "table of the elements" and is scheduled for release sometime in 2009 on the Mind Expansion label.
