Born on Tybee Island on the north Georgia Coast, Mikell Haynes resided in such diverse locales as Long Island NY, Japan, the Shennandoh Valley and El Paso Texas before settling at age twelve in Colorado. Mikell graduated from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver where he studied under painter John Lencicki and with the international renown figure artist, the late Philip J. Steele. Working primarily in oils or watercolours he often goes beyond the traditional boundaries for a realist working in those mediums. His work has been featured in a number of galleries and exhibitions including two one man shows sponsored by the Savannah Ballet and by the Colorado State Ballet respectively. Besides working as a graphic designer, he is a freelance illustrator and has worked as a television courtroom artist .
