Our Mission

The Mermaids act as ambassadors to the sea by educating the public about human-sourced ocean pollution and advocating for lifestyles and behaviors that preserve the ocean environment.

Who We Are

Save The Mermaids is a non-profit organization started by a group of friends in Santa Barbara, California whose love for the ocean inspired them to create a program to keep it beautiful and healthy.

Plastic toxicity is wreaking slow havoc on our ocean eco-systems. We noticed the production of harmful plastics growing and general environmental consciousness decliningt. Thus, being avid waterwomen, we decided to take action in raising awareness and providing a solution for the future.

Our goal is to educate the public in a fun and creative way how our actions affect the ocean environment as well as teach lifestyle habits to prevent further harm and benefit the health of the sea. We are continuously learning about issues affecting our world and how we can make changes as individuals to ensure that our world is forever blue and green, beautiful and clean. We aim to bridge the gap between scientific research and everyday knowledge, and to help communities come together to keep their oceans healthy.

OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM

Currently, we present to schools predominantly in Santa Barbara County and are working to expand our reach to more areas of Southern California. Our work with elementary schools consists of teaching them about the diverse marine eco-system, the threat of single-use plastic pollution, as well as discussing solutions to this ubiquitous dilemma. We also host adult events and fundraisers, which are both informative and fun with the charismatic mermaids in charge.

With the help of donations, the Mermaids are able to increase the number of schools and workshops we teach at, as well as get creative with how we teach children and the sorts of projects we involve them on. We would love to offer the children and young adults the opportunities to do media work and explore other ways of sharing this message of ocean preservation.

For a donation of $10 you can receive on mermaid bag or for a special promotional campaign we are running, we will send you 3 for a $25 donation and 8 for a $60 donation.
