Mentalvelcro is now helping Haiti. The band will be performing at several locations throughout the city during the upcoming months to raise money for the House Of Hope Orphanage. Their objective is to raise $25,000. Their kick off performance at the Crown Plaza Hotel in January raised $7,000. these four young musicians (Liam Dubé 12, Jan Dubé 11, Quinn Dubé 9 and Sandro Ragusa 13) are very enthusiactic about supporting efforts to help haiti during this time of major crisis. Please note that if you donate before Febuary 12 you can triple your impact -- 10 dollars becomes 30 dollars thanks to matching donations from the government of Canada and Ajax Downs . Your donation will help better the lives of many orphans who have lost everything as a result of the earthquake.

Mentalvelcro is a local Ottawa band. The original band members are the three brothers, Liam (12),Jan (11) ,Quinn (9).The newest members are Sandro(13) rythem guitar and Rob (Dad of the 3 brothers) on the keys.The three brothers where always into music.Their dad played old tunes while on the way to Liam's hockey tounaments in Montreal and Toronto.Their dad played all the old tunes from The Beatles to U2. " I remember playing on pots and pans as drums to Led Zeppllin while my brothers played air guitar with a broom" Liam says."I didn't think I was going to be in a band until I hit 5th or 6th grade -- I wanted to be a hockey player." Liam stopped playing hockey in grade 6 because he wanted to snow board. Liam first wanted to play drums until he realised that his brother,Quinn, was a natural drummer. Liam and Sandro have known each other since 1st grade. Sandro took guitar lessons (grade 3 and 4) for 2 years but then decided he wanted to stop playing. In April 2008, Liam started taking guitar lessons and hasn't stopped since. In 2009, Liam and two other friends wanted to put together a band for a school talent show. But they did not have a singer or rythem guitarist. So they asked Jan to sing and Sandro to play rythem since he had experience playing the guitar. They tried out for the audition and made it to the show .They sang "Sweet Child O'Mine" by Guns 'N' Roses. It was the first time that the boys performed togehter. The band then split up. In September 2009 ,their grandmother asked the three boys to perform 2 songs for fundraiser. Then she booked them again at the St-Brigitte Centre. They asked Sandro to play rhythem guitar and back vocals, LIam -- lead guitar, Quinn on drums, and Jan plays the base and is the lead signer. Now the 4 boys play one show a month.
