Hello, welcome to Makeup By Melissa! Here you will see some detailed information about the services I provide as well as images of some of my recent work. Before you begin browsing, I would like to share a little about myself, and how I came to be where I am today.
It’s easy to say that my love for makeup was noticed at a very young age. I once read in my baby book that I received a Tinkerbelle pretend makeup set for my 5th birthday and that’s all it took! By 17, I was working in a local cosmetics boutique which is where I decided that working in the beauty industry would become my career. My plan after high school graduation was to attend makeup school in Paris , but fate had other plans in store. After obtaining a B.A. from Indiana University , I moved to Chicago , IL where I attended Makeup First, makeup school. My first out-of-college job was as a coordinator for the Nordstrom department stores cosmetics department. Eventually, I found myself as an assistant manager and makeup artist for MAC cosmetics. I felt like I had arrived! I was living in a big city, doing makeup every day, and loving life. Yet again, fate stepped in and brought me back to my hometown in Northwest Indiana , where I currently reside. I took a giant leap of faith in December 2010, parted ways with MAC cosmetics, and decided to try my hand at making a career of being a freelance makeup artist. So here we are today… With a vast array of skills obtained from over 9 years in retail cosmetics and several certifications obtained from MAC cosmetics, I am a freelance makeup artist servicing all of Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.
A majority of my time as a freelance artist is spent catering to brides and bridal parties, but I’m no one trick pony. I love to dabble in creative concept photo shoots and fashion shows. I also am available for corporate headshots, senior portraits, modeling portfolios, special occasions, etc. There are no limitations to what Makeup By Melissa can provide for you.
