MEDIAFEST 2011 MULTIMEDIA CONTEST OFFICIAL RULES AND GUIDELINESGENERAL RULESENTRY RELEASEThe Mediafest 2011 Multimedia Contest operators reserve the right to adjust the below stated rules and guidelines as they deem necessary. Any entries submitted into said contest become the property of Mediafest and therefore may be used for publicity purposes, in the form of photos, web use, sample use, and any other form of media. Mediafest will also keep entries on hand in order to have an archive of the entries. The entry form, which is to be submitted with every entry, acts as a contract to those who have signed it. By signing this form the signer agrees to the terms stated on the contract as well as those stated in these rules and guidelines. JUDGING AND PRE-SCREENINGEntries submitted into the Mediafest 2011 Multimedia Contest will go through two phases of judging, one for pre-screening and one for final award judgment. Not all entries submitted into this contest will make it into the final stage of award judging. It is up to the discretion of the judges to determine if an entry is brought into the final stage of judging. DISQUAILIFICATIONEntries may be disqualified for the following reasons: improper submission into a category (i.e. submitting an audio entry into a video category, entering a graphic design entry into a journalism category, etc.), entry does not fit the restrictions of the category, entry form is not properly filled out, entry is submitted past the deadline, entries content is not proper for Mediafest 2011 (note: explicit entries are allowed, please see details under EXPLICIT ENTRIES), quality of entry does not fit standards of Mediafest, the judges decide to disqualify the entry, entry is found to have plagiarized and/or used content of a copyrighted nature without including the proper release of content from the provider, and entry is not on the acceptable form of media (please see CATEGORY DETAILS for information regarding proper media). Mediafest reserves the right to disqualify any entry it deems unsuitable for Mediafest. PRESENTATIONEntries, which are brought into the final stage of judging, may be presented during Mediafest 2011 (May 28, 2011). An entry may not be displayed for the following reasons: content is not acceptable for the audience (note: explicit content is allowed, please see details under EXPLICIT ENTRIES), there is not enough time during the event to display the entry, entry is not able to be displayed due to technical difficulties, entry cannot be shown in its full length due to time restrictions (note: entries exceeding ten minutes are allowed, please see CATEGORY DETAILS for more information regarding length). GUIDELINESEXPLICIT ENTRIESExplicit content refers to the use of: foul language, nudity, drug use, references to sex or sexual items, references to adult themes, violence or gore, and intense or frightening images. Entries with explicit content are allowed to be entered into the contest and will still be judged. However, for an explicit entry to be presented at Mediafest the person submitting the entry must also submit a clean version of the entry. A clean version means that the explicit content cannot be seen or heard by the audience. An explicit entry still has the potential to be awarded a prize and will not be disqualified, but if the contestant wishes for their entry to be seen by the public the clean version will be what is shown. CATEGORY DETAILSThe following is a break down of each of the categories as well as their requirements for submission:VIDEOAll video categories are required to be on a DVD-R. SHORT FEATUREA short feature is a short narrative, which contains a beginning, middle, and end. This may extend past ten minutes; however, the judges watching the feature will only be viewing ten minutes of the entry. It is up to the person submitting the feature to determine which ten minutes you would like the judges to view. If the submitter chooses to submit the entire feature the judges will assume that they are to watch the first ten minutes of the feature. MUSIC VIDEO A music video is a video, which is accompanied by a song. The songs as well as the video are both to be original content produced by the submitter. The video can be of artists performing the song, a story that follows the song, or an artistic take on the song. DOCUMENTARY/ENGA documentary is a short narrative telling a story about a subject, and an ENG is a short narrative told in the form of a news story. The essential goal of a documentary or ENG is to inform the audience about a subject. As with the short feature category if the entry extends past ten minutes it is up to the person submitting it to choose which ten minutes you would like the judges to view. If the submitter chooses to submit the entire feature the judges will assume that they are to watch the first ten minutes of the documentary or ENG. COMMERCIAL/INFOMERCIALA commercial or infomercial is a short advertisement or public service announcement meant to sell or inform the audience about a product or service. The shortest length for a commercial or infomercial is fifteen seconds. As with the short feature and documentary categories if the infomercial or commercial exceeds ten minutes it is up to the person submitting it to choose which ten minutes you would like the judges to view. If the submitter chooses to submit the entire project the judges will assume that they are to watch the first ten minutes of the commercial or infomercial.AUDIOAll audio entries are required to be on a CD-R.ORIGINAL SONGAn original song is a song created from scratch by an artist or producer. The entire song is to be made of original content produced by the person submitting it. The entry has no minimum length but if the judges of the contest will only be listening to ten minutes of the submission. It is up to the person submitting the feature to determine which ten minutes you would like the judges to hear. If the submitter chooses to submit the entire song, the judges will assume that they are to listen to the first ten minutes of the song.SOUND DESIGNSound design is the use of audio for video. This can be in the form of ADR (additional dialogue recording), foley, or sound effects. SdjnfsdjnvgSPOT PRODUCTIONSpot production is a commercial or spot meant to be played on the radio or in another audio type broadcast. Spots like commercials are meant to persuade or inform an audience about a product or service. Spots can be as short as fifteen seconds. It is recommended that the submitter aim for a length of thirty seconds to one minute. AIR CHECKAn air check is a sampling of an audio broadcasters works. It is meant to give a variety of samples of a DJs shows and performances in order to display their content. As with the original song category the judges will only be listening to the first ten minutes of the air check although it is not restricted to this length, it is up to the person submitting the entry to decide which ten minutes of the air check that they would like the judges to review. It is recommended that the submitter aim for a length of three to five minutes.
