Dall Residence Remodel
We renovated the very cramped back stair to the basement by adding a direct connection to their rear garden from the kitchen, adding a back deck and remodelling the existing stair to ease access to the basement.

Reading Nook
North Portland Attic Remodel
This home had an original existing finished stair that led to an unfinished attic. We finished the attic, popping up a small dormer to accomodate a generous second bathroom for the house. The finished space includes a bedroom, family room, reading nook and bathroom.

Aicher Residence Addition
We added a large master bedroom and walk-in closet to this classic duplex in NW Portland, allowing our client to view the swifts at the Chapman School chimney from the comfort of their home.

Frank Merrill Attic Conversion
This home had a very generous attic space that was easily converted into a family room. A european style ladder-stair was added into a hallway linen closet to access the space.
Creighton Residence Addition
The addition of a master bedroom and bath and extension of kitchen area to new deck, required revising the stair layout to the existing basement. The new addition blends seemlessly with the existing home.
Hen House
St. Johns Chicken Coop
This coop in North Portland was built with 95% re-claimed materials. The roofing and the hardware cloth were the only items that had to be purchased new.
Includes a door, hardware and old sink purchased from the Rebuilding Center.

We will help you to take advantage of all tax credits and cash incentives available. We have years of experience working with the Energy Trust of Oregon, USGBC, Earth Advantage and various City and County Sustainability Programs.
Mel has adopted the Architecture 2030 Challenge to reduce building energy consumption by 70% by 2015.
Melynda received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon with a Minor in Environmental Studies. During her time at UO, she was awarded a fellowship to study abroad at the Glasgow School of Art, Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, Scotland. Mel worked for HKIT Architects in San Franciso for 8 years, but then realized that no other place compares to a life in the Pacific Northwest; and she returned with her family to Portland in 2005.
She is a licensed architect in Oregon and has over fifteen years experience working in the field - her experience varies from large scale multi-family housing and public school projects to countless retail tenant improvements and single family home renovations.
Mel looks forward to working with you on your next project.
When Mel is not working she enjoys spending time tending her urban farm at their home in SE Portland. Her family collects rainwater to water their large garden and their small flock of chickens and they compost most of their kitchen waste. They plan to add a solar hot water system in the near future.
We have worked with Sparks Baughman on selected design-build projects since 2005.
Mel and Sparks are an efficient team that will complete the entire process of your project - design, permitting and construction seamlessly. They have the ability to evaluate at each step of the process and choose the most cost effective decisions according to your needs.
