SEE YOU AT THE TOURNAMENT!!!
The Maryland Feather Bowl is the first of several fundraising tournaments in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area to support Vincent Nguy and Sam Gunatileka on their quest for the Olympics. Our goal is to raise funds for them and future players with the same aspirations to excel in the sport of badminton. All proceeds will go toward these players training and their travel expenses/entry fees to various competitions within the U.S. and abroad.
A little about Sam and Vincent
Sam and Vincent have been involved in badminton for over ten years and have trained hard in hopes of achieving their long-time dream to represent the U.S. in the Olympics. They have and continue to actively participate in the adult circuit and are currently ranked #2 in the U.S. in Mens Doubles. Just recently, they became champions of the 2009 Boston Open in A mens doubles. This summer, Sam and Vincent traveled to Thailand for three months to train in order to further their skills. In this coming year, Sam and Vincent will continue to train on and off the court and hope to compete in at least five international tournaments.
Thank you for supporting Sam, Vincent, and the 1st Annual Maryland Feather Bowl. As we grow, we hope to give back to the badminton community that has given us so much support. We hope that the efforts to support these young men will not only support them, but also inspire other athletes like them to train and work hard to advance the sport of badminton in our area.
