Recital: Kenneth Weiss, harpsichord
A Cleare Day
The superb harpsichordist Kenneth Weiss performs works from the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book using two different instruments - an Italian harpsichord and an ottavino, a portable keyboard. Their distinctive timbres add considerable variety to what is already a selection of radically different pieces by Munday, Dowland, Byrd, Philips, Farnaby, Gibbons, Peerson, Tomkins, and Bull.
A wine and cheese reception follows the concert.
3 Sunday, November 20, 4 p.m.
Les Délices
Debra Nagy, director and baroque oboe
Scott Metcalfe, baroque violin; Emily Walhout, viola da gamba
Lucas Harris, guitar and theorbo; Michael Sponseller, harpsichord
The Tastes Reunited
Les Délices instrumental program captures a defining moment for French Baroque style when Couperin, Clérambault, Jean-Féry Rebel and Duphly eagerly assimilated the exciting vitality found in sonatas by Vivaldi, Corelli, and others. The new works show a scintillating French-Italian fusiona partial (and refreshing) break from the de rigueur music of Louis XIVs court.

Arte de tañer fantasia
Paul Leenhouts, recorder, and Gabriel Shuford, harpsichord, embellish Spanish and Italian music from the 16th and 17th centuries. Practicing the art of diminution and improvisation, the virtuoso performers transform the original lines.
