American baritone Martin Fisher has a breadth of repertoire ranging from Broadway to Grand Opera. He can be heard on the album Barrelhouse to Broadway, which won a 2008 Grammy Award for Best Producer. Upcoming includes Balthazar (Amahl and the Night Visitors) in Abu Dhabi. Fisher began 2010 with a debut at The Kennedy Center as Jissa in Amanjaku and Urikohime. He made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2009 as a Finalist in the Accadia Competition for Operatic Voice.
Fisher recently returned to New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera as Escamillo (Carmen) at the Bergen PAC after previously singing Marcello in their production of La Bohéme. Other highlights include an appearance with New York City Opera in Danielpour's Margaret Garner, Gregorio (Romeo et Juliette) at Dicapo Opera and the title role in a new symphonic work, Prometheus with the Astoria Symphony. In 2006, he performed as the soloist in the Beethoven Ninth Symphony at Symphony Space in New York City, and made his Lincoln Center debut at Alice Tully Hall in the American debut of the Japanese opera, Kurofune with Harmonia Opera.
Fisher's operatic repertoire includes: Valentin (Faust), Enrico (Lucia di Lammermoor), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Germont (La Traviata), Amonasro (Aida), Miller (Luisa Miller), Count di Luna (il Trovatore), Don Carlo (la Forza del Destino),Tonio (i Pagliacci), Grande Pretre (Samson et Dalila), Scarpia (Tosca), and the title role in Rigoletto. As a recitalist and oratorio singer, Martin is a frequent performer of African-American spirituals, as well as Handel's Messiah and Alexander's Feast, Milhaud's les Choephores, the Faure Requiem, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Schumann's Dichterliebe and Vaughan Williams' song cycle for baritone, chorus, and orchestra Five Mystical Songs. The Camden, New Jersey native is a 2009 Finalist in The Violetta DuPont Competition and a 2008 Finalist in the Paul Robeson Competition.
