About the Artist
Born in Montevideo, Uruguay artist Martin Dominguez Ball moved to New York in the mid-1980s. Self-taught as an artist, his ink on wood designs marry primitive technique and painstaking attention to detail. His collection of distinctive guitars, paintings, sculpture and wall pieces evoke images of Uruguayan folk art with a decidedly contemporary flair. Martins work has been well received at galleries in New York City and in Rockland and Orange Counties.Artist StatementIt starts with a simple idea: sometimes crystal clear, sometime hiding in the recesses of my mind’s eye. The rest is a leap of faith. A commitment to operating in the tension of creative uncertainty and allowing something unique and unexpected to emerge. Whether working with paints and pens or a MacBook Pro, I seek to compose imaginative and graphically appealing images that capture the essence everyday life in surprising and beautiful ways. I approach every art or design project as an opportunity to challenge myself as an artist in a way that exceeds the expectations of my clients, commissions and gallery audiences.
