I got into music after seeing Mike Oldfield perform "Tubular Bells"
on TV in 1974. I thought this was something wonderful -
completely different from anything in the pop charts, no singing,
repetitive without being monotonous, and incredibly emotional and
expressive. I started to play guitar, but within a few months heard something
even more incredible - Tangerine Dream in session on the John Peel radio
show. At the time I loved the Space Invaders arcade games and this seemed
like their perfect soundtrack, full of strange sounds and textures. Of course
synthesizers like the big Moog systems were extremely expensive,
but I got hold of a couple of electric keyboards and tape recorders,
then had kit-based synths and sequencers built for me.
At University I used their ARP Odyssey and other synths and created
concert backing videos in the college TV studio. My first job was on an
electronic music magazine and I reviewed all the new synths starting with the
very first MIDI models as well as meeting some of the big names of the
electronic music scene in the 1980's - Jean-Michel Jarre, Karlheinz
Stockhausen, White Noise, Tangerine Dream and many others. I formed a
label to help release my own music in 1985 and later released compilations
including tracks personally offered by Isao Tomita, Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Kraftwerk 's Karl Bartos and others.
As well as playing many solo synthesizer concerts at venues including the old London Planetarium, the Carnegie Science Center Planetarium Pittsburgh, the Franklin Institute Planetarium Philadelphia, and the Teatro Nacional, Brazilia I had the privilege of performing at the Royal Festival Hall, London with Damo Suzuki, the amazing improvising singer from the German rock band Can, and more recently with Arthur Brown the legendary singer of the No. 1 hit "Fire". Right now I'm developing several new solo album and band projects in the synthesizer, progressive rock and jazz/world fusion fields, including performances in the UK and USA of my own music and a piece by Terry Riley, and released the world's first album created on an Apple iPad in Holland in October 2010. I've also performed all over the world within legendary electronic music band White Noise, most recently at the new London Planetarium, and at the British Museum to close the Moctezuma exhibition with singer Alquimia .
