reWORDgitate is a site developed, maintained by and about OCSA's Creative Writing majors. Our goal is to throw our work out into the real world rather than shelter it in the safety of the classroom. With raw words, raw experiences, raw brilliance and passion from the writers of this department. This site showcases our work, the current events within the creative writing department, the events within the school and the community, and us as a whole. One body, one creative soul, one scrawl of reality onto the blank page called life.
We're Maria, Emmakate, Ashley, Adriana and Bella: a group of high school students who got tired of generic websites with writing that we can't really relate to. We've decided to take a stand and create a space where people can express their ideas and showcase their talent.
reWORDgitate is all about emotions and the creative ways to express them- it’s about getting a message across to our readers. We also want to keep our readers informed on the current events in the writing world, as well as, some areas of general entertainment which include music, book and movie reviews.
We're just a witty bunch of girls and we're not afraid to speak our minds. Our message to you is “don't be afraid to express yourself” and our website is the tool we’re giving you to do so. We hope you enjoy it. Thank you.

The Ruminer is OCSA's literary journal. Submissions for this journal are open to the whole school. In fact, it's encouraged! The writing within the journal is purely fiction and it includes short stories and poetry. We also accept photography submissions. The Ruminer usually has a theme: the theme for the edition we're currently working on is Raw Emotions.
Everybody wonders: what do you do with your life? What do you do with the endless nights and monotonous mornings; what do you do with the empty popcorn bowls and buttered up baking pans? What to do with all the questions unanswered? Well, I have a question now as I sit here on this hospital bed, waiting to cough my lungs out until the last of days are gone: what do you do with your life when you're dying? The question pierces my mind as I stare hours on end at the whitewashed sheets, twiddling the silk soft material between my fingers and savoring the feel of a clean bed; a feeling I never had as a child.

I wish
I wish I could be rain
Falling from the sky
A grain of sand
Being tossed by the sea
I wish I could be
A star that burns in the sky
A simple cat that roams the streets
A pebble underneath your feet
A bird on a roof top
A fish in a pond
Maybe the pencil I am writing with
Or the paper I am scrawling this upon
Oh please, I wish I could be
Anything other than what I am now
Anything other than me
A bruised apple in an orchard
A sunflower wilting in a pot
A surfboard playing the waves
But please don’t let me be me
A snake in the grass
A lamp not lit
A broken heartbeat
A kid throwing a fit
As long as I’m anything but me
Doesn'’t matter if I have
Antlers, a tail, or fleas
Just please oh please
Don'’t let me be me.
Twinkle, Twinkle little star
How I wonder why you're there
Looking down upon this land
Like you'll never understand
Tracing figures in the sky
Watching as we fall and die
Shooting out your crimson flames
Waiting to see all those names
Praying that we will find peace
Only to see people leave
Don't be scared little star
We still don't know what you are.
Do what ever you want, just don’'t get hurt
Go to Pleasure Island, don't be an ass
Run in circles and stare at the clouds
Be Mike Brock at Starbucks and jump fences.
Let Them Laugh
Dress as the Devil on Easter Day
Celebrate Lemuria and eat broken glass
Ride a crocodile, but only in winter
Flash the eye and set fire to the flag
Make sure it’s in tatter though
Let Them Gasp
Give food to the homeless, and make con artist cry
Adopt a Chernobyl baby, love it before it dies
Go PETA on animal abuser.
Feed and replenish reservations, not the casino bourgeoisie
Let Them Cry
In an opinionated society and life
Freedom goes to the ignorant
Don’t care for the opinions of the middle class
Because you're free to do what you like
Not hung and narrowed down by stiff norm laws
So Let Them Eat Cake
On Thursday, December 15, 2011 I had the opportunity to attend the 23 year-old producer, Skrillex, show: "Insomniac presents Skrillex" at the House Of Blues - the Orlando stop on his long awaited Mothership tour. From the extremely long waiting line outside until the very last second of the show, the crowd stayed wired and pumped. It was as if an electric current were going through everyone present, if you stayed quiet for a couple seconds I wouldn't doubt you could've heard the soft humming of the electricity current emanating from the crowd's energy. Once inside, the mood was set even further by the incredible setup of the stage. During Skrillex's set, his tunes were accompanied by a wide variety of different lights that would change their color and rhythm to accompany the music. Not only did he use the lights to enhance his show on stage, but he also used projections of different animated images around his station as he played. These images gave the illusion of gears turning and morphing into different shapes and colors. This fit perfectly with the very robotic and mechanic effects used in his music. There was also a screen located directly behind him. In it, there was an animated figure that mimicked his every move. Skrillex played several of his most acclaimed tunes, such as: "First of Year (Equinox)", "Cinema" and "Scary Monsters and Nice Spirits". While all of this was going on onstage, the audience was also animatedly adding to the show by performing their own "light shows". There were multiple people with lights on their finger tips, twirling their hands around, creating mesmerizingly beautiful shapes and patterns that stood out like neon colored nebulas in the dark space of the House Of Blues. Everyone danced and jumped around non-stop all night long. If you were tired and stood still, the crowd would move you along to the music. Sounds a little claustrophobic doesn't it? Well I thought so too but then I closed my eyes and it was almost like the movement of the ocean waves. All in all, it was a completely successful show and an unforgettable experience. If you ever have a chance to attend one of Skrillex's shows I guarantee you'll have the time of your life!
The Ruminer hosted it's second movie night on Friday, January 20th. Like their previous one, they hosted a dress-down day alongside it. The theme of the dress down day was: Express Yourself Zombie Day. Though not nearly as successful as their Grease Night, OCSA's campus was sprinkled with a varying amount of Zombies- everything from dead widows to surfers that rose from the dead after a shark attack. Later at the movie, worms in dirt (pudding, oreos, and gummie woms) were served. All in all, it was a generally small event, but fun nonetheless.
I got the wonderful opportunity to review My Emperor’s New Clothes last week. As I arrived there were villagers doing the Mango Chutney wave at the doors, waiting to skip you along to your seat. The set for this play was quite impressive- it was evident that a lot of hard work and effort went in to it. To be honest, I didn’t expect much of this play at first- I expected it to be one of those things only children would find interest and humor in. But I was pleasantly surprised. The story is the same one I read years ago in elementary, an Emperor is looking for someone to tailor him a suit so perfect that it will be unlike anything anyone has ever seen before, and that’s exactly what he gets. The Emperor was played by Nick D and he played his part to the T. He truly was the emperor that evening. He was hilarious and witty, and did great improvisation with the crowd- he broke right through the fourth wall and it was fantastic to watch. Another of the main characters was played by Jarrod S.- he played the part of Pony, the emperors, cook, army, and secretary. His character was in love with the princess who was played by Miss Emily W. And together they made a wonderful duo on stage. Their chemistry was adorable and fun to watch, and you immediately fall in love with both of them as a couple! The play as a whole was marvelous; it took a child’s play and made it something that could be enjoyed by the young and the old. I loved every minute of it and I laughed till’ my sides hurt. This play makes me look forward to the other plays coming up! Congratulations to the drama department for their success and I hope to see more plays like this one!
Though you've probably haven't heard of them yet, be sure that you will very soon. This band has collaborated (oddly enough) with Taylor Swift to become part of the upcoming film “ The Hunger Games ” soundtrack. Band members Joy Williams and John Paul White came together to create a modest, yet incredibly bluesy album. Even though they're very minimalistic with their instrument use (most songs are acoustic), their lyrics and vocals make up for it. If I had to describe their sound, I would say to take the mellow side of the Black Keys and put it in a blender with Norah Jones. In general, if you're in the mood to go to the beach on a brisk and cloudy afternoon with a good book, Barton Hollow is the album for you. My overall rating: 8/10
John Green effectively managed to engross the reader in both gut wrenching suffering, and tear jerking happiness. The Fault in Our Stars was nothing short of perfect as it followed the story of Hazel Grace and her unexpected run in with the charming and devilishly attractive Augustus Waters. Both survivors and victims of cancer, they find solace in their growing love for one another. While the story did take some unrealistic turns, one can only dismiss such things considering that one, this was a work of fiction, and two, it had romantic qualities, and romance is given much leeway when it comes to probable experiences. This novel is one that'll warm your heart, break it, make you laugh, make you cry. Intellectually noteworthy and witty, this might possibly be John Green's best novel yet.
Near a small town in Alaska, a family of whales gets trapped in the ice forming in the Arctic Circle miles from the ocean. It is a touching story of a town joining together to save these whales. This movie is a heartfelt story, that will make you tear up, and not going to lie I cried a little. It is a beautiful masterpiece with so much to it. Especially for families, this movie is worth seeing.
