artist statement
Artist Statement
My mission as an artist is to explore the sensations of natural body mechanics in order to create images of true human experiences. I use dance as a method to discover the human anatomy and test scientific principles of the body. I strive to create organic movement through the investigation of momentum, weight, muscle patterns, and the skeletal system. I utilize extreme physicality and athleticism to create real human experiences and explore the human identity. My background in African and modern dance influences my percussive and rhythmic musicality. My dances travel throughout extremes of layered, unexpected patterning and nearly motionless meditative movement. I fuse pedestrian motions and familiar dance movements with intricate details that transform the movement into an innovative sensational experience for both the dancers and audience members. My goal as a dance artist and athlete is to create gender-neutral art that celebrates the body and the science of motion while creating a sensational experience. In the future I will to delve into site specific, multimedia, and dance for the camera as different mediums to recreate an environment and further the sensational creation of my work.
