Judo ("gentle way") is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport derived from Jujitsu. The object of Judo is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize the opponent with a hold-down, or force an opponent to submit by locking the elbow or by applying a choke. The Macquarie University Judo Club welcomes everyone, from seasoned black belts to absolute beginners, to train with us. We welcome men and women, students and non-students. Training sessions typically consist of 15 minutes warm-up, 45 minutes of Ne-waza (ground techniques), 45 minutes of Tachi-waza (standing techniques), and about 20 minutes of Randori (sparring) and/or Nage-waza (throwing) drills.
