Historical Origin of Maayon Many believed that the word Maayon came from the root word "MAAYO." According to the elders, the origin of the place, its name Maayon, came about this way: During the Spanish regime, a group of Spanish soldiers came upon a group of men and women harvesting rice. The foreigners in their own dialect inquired from the group what the name of the place was. They don't understand what the foreigners are talking about, until one of the natives thought that may be the foreigners were asking about their harvest he answered "MAAYO MAN," meaning the harvest are good and bountiful. The Spaniards can't pronounce the word correctly, so they repeated the word "MAAYON." Thus the word MAAYON started and to this very day the place is known as MAAYON.How Maayon Become a Municipality For many years, Maayananons have desired that to be seperated from the Municipality of Pontevetdra and become a seperate and district Municipality. Until the year 1955, Congresswoman Carmen Pinglasan Consing on her second term as representative of the first district of the province of Capiz, filed House Bill No.2098 and was sponsore by Senator Justiniano S. Montantano for its approval in the senate. Then, on March 30,1955, President Ramon Magsaysay, Sr. signed (R.A.) Republic Act no.1203creating the municipality of Maayon in a ceremony held in Malacañan Palace. It was first measure approved by President Magsaysay during the 1955 sessions of congress. Its first appointed municipal officials were Rafael M. Declaro, Mayor; Hon. Ernesto Diaz, Vice Mayor; Councilors: Hon. Marcelo Diaz, Hon. Filomeno Comoro, Hon. Dumagpi, Hon. Agustin Barruela, Hon. Damaso Deocampo and Hon. Marcelo Delfin. Mr. Diosdado Borres, Sr., Chief of Police, Uldarico Dieta, Municipal Secretary, and Mr. Amador Almalbis, Municipal Treasurer.

Maayon Today
Today Maayon is composed of thirty-two (32) barangays with a land area of 18,002 hectares.Its total population based on the 2007 census survey is 35,448. It is a third class municipality. It has five (5) kinder garten or pre-schools, fourty-two (42) Day Care Centers, thirty-two (32) Elementary Schools, four (4) Secondary Schools.
This thirty-two (32) barangays were the Palaguian, Indayhagan, Balighot, Cabug, Cabungahan, Quinatuyan, Ilawod, Ilaya, Fernandez, Salgan, Pina, Tapulang, Batabat, Carataya, Alayan, Lebaca, West Villaflores, New Guia, Old Guia, East Villaflores, Bongbongan, Tuburan, Maalan, Guinbialan, Quevedo, Manayupit, Alagasing, Duluan, Aglimogon, Canapian, Quinabonglan, Paralan.
Some portion of the town is considered flat and its eastern section is mountainous. Due to the existence of the Maayon River which flows from the boundary of Iloilo in the east towards the Panay River in the west, Maayon has an abundant quarry of gravel and sand. It is believed that the mountains of Maayon have rich deposits of valuable minerals like copper, gold rock, manganese, and limestone. Its plains are fertile lands, making the town basically rice-producting and farming as the main livelihood its inhabitants.
Every harvest, Maayon produces a great surplus of palay marketed to neighboring towns and even to nearby towns of Iloilo.
To face the challenge and greater demands for development, the incumbent the administration strives to seek its relevance to the dynamic and progressive-looking provide leadership and to keep in stride with the development pace of the rest of Capiz's to forged a VISION-a collected vision which shall be the light of its development goals:
"We envision Maayon as a peaceful and progressively developing town with environment-friendly-agriculture-based-economy inhabited by God-loving, healthy,educated Maayananons adequately served of basic services."
To come to this vision, we commit to a sustainable and environment-friendly-agriculture-production-program, a comprehensive health-services-program, an integrated-environmental-management-program, a revenue-generation-enhancement program and a participant governance thru people empowerment.

Location
Maayon is located in the south-eastern portion of the Province of Capiz bearing a distance of 31.6 kilometers from the center of communication of Capiz Province which is Roxas City. It is bounderd in the municipality of President Roxas, south west by the municipality of Sara, Province of Iloilo, on the south by the municipality of Lemery, Iloilo and municipality of Cuartero, On the southeast by the municipality of Dao and northeast by the Municipality of Panitan.
The Poblacion proper of Maayon is 15.93 kilometer from the Poblacion proper of Panitan.
This Municipality is accessible by a National road from Roxas City via the municipality of Panitan through a portion of the municipality of Pontevedra specifically at Barangay Bailan.This road is connected to the upland portion of the municipalities of Cuartero and Dumarao, which is covered by the resettlement area.
The exact location of Maayon is at coordinates 146 degrees .05 min. north longitude and 11 degrees 22.3 min. north latitude.

Maayon
Maayon was created a municipality thru Republic Act 1205 signed into law by late President Ramon Magsaysay, Sr. on March 30, 1995. It was formerly an "arrabal" of the municipality of Pontevedra until that evenful day when
