Rick Murray -- Keynote Speaker
Ricks principal areas of expertise include brand positioning, digital marketing, social business strategy, integrated communications and influencer engagement. Today, he provides strategic and creative counsel to many of Edelmans top global accounts including RIM, eBay, Humana and Abbott Labs.
In June 2010 Rick was appointed President of the firms Chicago office. Today, Edelman Chicago is the largest PR operation in the Midwest and home to almost 600 people, each of whom are proud to help a wide range of local, national and multi-national clients with smart, results-driven Consumer Marketing, Corporate Affairs, and Health, Technology and Digital initiatives. Since joining Edelman in 2001, he has served as general manager of the Edelmans Diversified Services unit; president of me2revolution (a pioneering social media lab); and president of Edelman Digital, a global business that now represents some 12% of Edelmans total fees.
Rick has previous experience as executive vice president of GolinHarris International; and as president of two leading experiential and sales promotion agencies, Motivation Media and The Promotion Network. He started his career in sales and marketing roles at Ocean Spray Cranberries, and then moved to Pepsi-Cola Canada where he directed national marketing efforts for Brand Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew and 7-Up.
Rick is a frequent speaker and media spokesman on social media, social networks, word of mouth marketing and the future of communications. He sits on Advisory Boards at Auburn and Georgetown Universities, and has been a guest lecturer to undergrad and graduate-level students at leading academic institutions in the US, Canada and Europe. He holds a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Vermont.

Scott Farrell
Scott Farrell is currently the president of Global Corporate Communications at GolinHarris and a Board Member at PRSA Chicago. Before working at GolinHarris Scott was the Senior Vice President at Cohn & Wolfe, the Director of Marketing Services at Culligan International and was Vice President at Burson-Marsteller. A graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison, Scott specializes in corporate communications, including reputation management, executive visibility, issues management, crisis management, corporate citizenship and sustainability. Scott believes, "These are interesting times for companies learning (some the hard way) the true power of reputation in creating real value, breaking away from the competition, engaging stakeholders in positive action and driving bottom line results. The power of social media, the demand for transparency, the growing power of NGOs, the increasing interplay between government and business and the expectations of investors, customers and consumers all converging in a global context make the work I do with clients and colleagues more challenging and exciting than ever."
Christopher Barr
Yahoo! Senior Editorial Director Chris Barr has been around the content block more than a few times. His career in editorial and technology spans more than two decades, beginning with PC World magazine back in the 1980s. Later, he was the founding editor-in-chief of CNET. Recently, Chris co-authored the Yahoo! Style Guide, a must-read for next-generation content developers, Web writers and Associated Content contributors. Chris says that his Yahoo! team "Sets the global editorial standards for Yahoo! style and voice, all aspects of user interaction text, blogging guidelines, policy (advertorial, appropriateness), and similar documentation; Teaches Yahoos worldwide how to be better writers and editors, whether theyre blogging, programming front doors, creating new products, or writing for marketing or public relations; Upholds the standards through editing or writing copy for new properties and features as well as visible network and corporate content, such as front page packages, blogs (News, entertainment), marketing copy, press releases, etc.
Joe Curry
Joe Curry is the Social Media Manager of Global Web Communications at McDonald's Corporation. In addition Joe is an Entrepreneur at Joe Curry Recordings. Previous to working at McDonalds Corporation Joe was an intern at Worldwide Strategy & Business Development with Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. In addition he was a public relations Account Executive at Padilla Speer Beardsley. Joe attended the University of Notre Dame, Mendoza College of Business, and University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management. He says that he is a, "Professional communicator with the heart of a businessman. From hybrid seed corn to newspapers and PR to marketing and technology, I'm curious about life and enjoy making the connection for and with others that leads to greater understanding." Joe curry specializes in intranet and web communications tools, social media, web 2.0, writing, enterprise search and marketing/promotions.

Elaine Soloway is the CEO of Elaine Soloway Public Relations. This public relations firm is a Chicago-based, full-service, public relations company blending traditional tools with social media to bring positive attention to your non-profit organization, small business, or book. Before creating her own public relations firm Elaine was a Specialist at the Apple Store, a press aide for Mayor Jane Byrne, the Director of Communications for Supt. Chicago, IL, November 12th 2010 -- DePaul Universitys Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter will be hosting the 2011 PRSSA regional activity. This year the regional activity will be called Transforming Traditional Into Digital: The New Ways of PR. The two-day activity will be hosted in Chicago on Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at 9:30 a.m.-Friday, February 11th, 2011 to 5:00 p.m. at the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd.
The goal for the event is to help future public relations professionals cultivate technological skills. As the Internet continues to impact the world of Public Relations, social media is drastically changing the face of the industry and is being used as an interactive tool. The theme encourages students to explore the significance behind the shift to the digital age of convenience and immediacy.
The event would provide attendees with the following: a visit/tour of a Chicago agency to allow our guests the opportunity to take a glimpse of the Chicago Public Relations industry. The event will also include informational seminars led by Public Relations professionals, while they discuss relative news and current trends. There will also be a panel of young professionals who will share how they transitioned into the business world along with the steps they took to get there. Finally, we urge students to come check out a handful of different organizations and network with them at our career fair.
