In the developed world the eating experience has as much to do with the appetite of our minds; food has to be aesthetically pleasing and often as much effort goes into the presentation as into the preparation. Through it we create social bonds and form relationships; we can encounter other cultures and traditions and benefit from the opportunity to learn about and taste food from overseas. Which is why, through Eating Design I aim to highlight our awareness to what and how we eat.
Order Cupcakes
A cupcake is a small cake designed to serve one person...
With this in mind 'Cupcake Portraits' have been created, a project which explores the concept of food having an identity, a personality and becoming more meaningful as an individual entity. To do this I ask everyone to send me 3 words to describe both their appearance and personality - these can be ANY three words, be as creative as you please. From this, individual cupcakes will be created as a representation, a portrait as i were, of yourself (although not in the literal sense of the word). Thus giving the cupcake its own identity and highlighting the conscious link between food and feeling.
Cupcakes can be delivered or collecetd on request - in UK only. Individual cupcakes £1.00 and will come professionally boxed, special offer with 4 cupcakes for £3.00
Please send all requests to artyfartycooking_hotmail.co.uk aswell as any other questions required.

Bon Appétit food lovers!!
Wednesday afternoon, I am sitting in Leeds College of Art & Design, scrawled on the wall of a studio, I am faced with the statement Im not a chef, I am an Eating choreographer!!. Its bold, but then again so is Lauren Cooley, the brains behind Arty Farty Cookin. Now in her final year at the college, she is starting to gain notoriety with local businesses around Leeds, creating truly original events that give people a remarkable experience with food.
Her passion to engage the public is unmatched, evoking long lasting memories through food, how we taste it and experience it, looking at her studio space it is clear she is trying to push the boundaries of how we eat. Tackling the mundane Western Civilisation and the mundane way we interact with food, she draws influences from all over the world. Her most recent event celebrated Easter with a heavy Greek influence and her own modern twist. People where invited to decorate chocolate eggs with all manner of red coloured sweets, dry fruit and dyed honey. Each egg was presented on an artists palette complete with brush, leaving the audience to create different variations with the ingredients.
Lauren is a work-a-holic and it is no surprise that she has a number of other events already in the pipeline. She is not just sticking to Leeds either; she already has a marshmallow event planned in Liverpool and another in Crewe, which pays tribute to rationing during the time of World War Two. Looking through her note pads and sketchbooks, she is constantly developing ideas and creating new ones.
While these events offer food lovers an opportunity to approach food differently, they are also helping local businesses. By offering smaller coffee shops and food outlets the chance to host these exciting events, it not only raises her profile, but also helps independent businesses reach out to new customers. It then also gives them the option to continue running similar schemes after Lauren has left. As I said earlier her passion to engage an audience is unmatched, it is clear from her work ethic that supporting local businesses and helping them grow is important too.
